2012 Debates

How about them Genocide Conventions?

(Romney talking about the Geneva conventions)
Not necessarily:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide_Convention

Still plenty of Romney gaffes to gloat about, tho. My favorite is his geography lesson: Syria is Iran's Route To The Sea. Truly bizzare, considering that Iran does not even share a border with Syria. Do we really want the launch codes in the hands of a guy who is this badly misinformed on what could turn out to be a very important detail? Has he even heard of the Strait of Hormuz, the spot along Iran's 1,500 mile coastline where its main naval base is located, and where it has threatened to block the Persian Gulf?

By the way, I reviewed the video, and Schieffer definitely said "Obama's Bin Laden". I like it. Some would say that Obama "pwned" Bin Laden, so, yeah. It works.

I thought of it first. Dibs!
Yeah, well, if he does get elected, I'm claiming first use of "Rawmoney".

ETA: Right behind the 2,470 Google hits for "Mitt Rawmoney". Damn you, Google!

(also, searching for "master debater" jerking off -- about 78,900 results.)

I guess it's true what Ecclesiastes says - nothing new under the sun. Damn you, Google. Damn you to hell.

The "attacking me is not a policy" was injected at an awkward time revealing it was clearly a rehearsed platitude.

Yeah--delivered right after an attack of Romney's incoherent policy and an explication of Obama's policy! It's almost as if he quit listening and formulated his response before Obama finished talking.

I thought it was incredibly brave (read "stupid") for Romney to bring up the "apology tour", considering how it has already been ravaged by fact-checkers, and now will be again two weeks from the election.

But how very weird that he'd say, "what I've called an apology tour"--essentially admitting that it was not an apology tour, but still calling it's an apology tour. To me, it sounded like he fessed up to lying--even in the debate. "What I've called an apology tour" doesn't somehow insulate him from the fact that he's still calling it an apology tour. Citing yourself to somehow distance the statement from yourself???

And his "the reason I called it an apology tour" bit fell flat--what with its utter failure to cite even a single apology.

That's during Obama's term!

How can the President gut our military like that?! When the Prussian cavalry comes sweeping out of their trenches, our brave fighting men and women will be defenseless.

No, they'll be provided with mobile phones so they can order airstrikes.

Maybe he was trying to counter Obama's rather effective attack on his constant flipflopping by demonstrating consistency on something, even if it's wrong; after all, the official announcement was made that his campaign would not be dictated by facts.

I'm going to guess you felt that Romney's "47%" comments doomed him.

Indeed I did, and it may yet.

Or that being a successful and wealthy capitalist would turn off the voting public.

never thought that.

And now you think that talking about increasing the size of the U.S. military is galactically stupid.

If only that were the whole story. He compared it to the 1916 navy to illustrate a point, that today's navy is weak by comparison. If that's not the definition of galactially stupid I don't know what is. There is simply no need to increase the size of our military.

It must be extremely confusing for you to watch Romney commit suicide time and time again, yet continue his upwards trend in the polls.

Confusing? No. Frustrating? Yes. The stupidity of the American Public apparently can't be understated.

Might be time to step back from the JREF/DailyKos/MSNBC and get some fresh air.

No clue what the DailyKos is and I don't watch MSNBC. You could put a gun to my head and demand I tell you what channel it is, and I'd be dead. No clue.

Relax, lefties. Obama won the debate. Obama has won the last two debates, according to a majority of the "stewpid Americans" polled.

What mystifies me is why you lefties even support Obama. He didn't pull precipitiously out of Iraq. He won't be out of Afghanistan until late 2014. He has ordered military incursions into sovereign countries. He bombed another dictator. He bombed a U.S. citizen. He ordered the premeditated murder of Osama bin Laden and the dumping of the body in the ocean. The list could go on.

Long story short, Obama has done pretty much what Bush would have done if Bush had a 3rd term.

So I don't understand all the pro-Obama fervor all of a sudden. I'm the one who should be (and is) happy to see Obama re-elected for a second term, and I'm an accursed "neocon". Not you lefties. You're all "progressives", remember?

You're all very confused, I think.

I think you are the one confused. You seem to think you have a *********** clue what others think. Guess what, you don't, so don't pretend. It makes you look silly.

It might not be stupid from an election perspective but aside from that, yes, yes it is galactically stupid.

The places where Mitt failed in my mind in no particular order.

1. Countering Obama by saying the government doesn't create jobs then telling us if he runs the government he will create 12 million jobs.

2. He didn't counter a lot of Obama attacks but when he did his counter was non-sensical. The explanation of why Mitt called it an apology tour was just weak and Obama trounced him with his own reply about his trips to Israel.

3. The insistence on a Navy bigger than the one from 100 years ago.

Interesting story you've conjured up there.

Don't kid yourself. What you think is hanging out all over the place, every day. 6692 times and counting, in your case.

So you're voting for Obama, then?

Why wouldn't I? He's a neocon, just like me and JFK.

Given all the inordinate attention you've been focusing on me, I'm surprised that you've apparently failed to notice that I've seldom if ever criticized Obama.

On another forum, during the post-election rejoicing over Obama's election, I told the lefties there that Obama is closer to me than he is to them. He still is.

I think this is an example of Romney's contempt for citizens. He knows it's complete BS. He just believes that he won't have to pay a price for his dishonesty. Now, it's possible that he doesn't understand modern American military philosophy and its reliance on advanced technology over sheer size. But if that's true then he went off the script. Not all of his handlers are that monumentally stupid. I'm sure some of them know the history of the cold war and how America chose to spend it's money on improving technology than simply building lots of weapons.

Maybe so. I haven't been thrilled with Obama, but he's closer to me than Mitt Romney is. Or two or three versions of Romney anyway. There are a couple of other versions of Romney that are closer to me, but they're kind of like fairies. They only appear when the atmospheric conditions are just right.

That must be an odd forum where all of the "lefties" hold exactly the same opinions, but if that is the case, then I can understand your disorientation when you come to a forum where members fill in all sorts of positions on both sides of center, both centrist and extreme. I realize that it is much easier when you're dealing with a strict dichotomy, but if you're going to be taken seriously here, you need to start getting used to the fact that our members are not so easily grouped.

Some of us (blush) have been on the liberal sides of some position, and on the conservative sides of others. I realize this means a lot more work for you, but you're actually going to have to pay attention to what people say, because we had all the pigeonholes stopped up.
