2010 Election Results

All 3 of the Iowa supreme court justices up for retention are currently losing by ~5% margins with 67% of precincts reporting. There's been a strong push to oust them after the court unanimously struck down Iowa's ban on same sex marriage. This one is a gutpunch. I didn't expect it at all.

Come on Iowa, you're better than this.
How much do Iowans hate fags?

They hate them so much that they got rid of three of their BEST justices.

Was there a pattern of misconduct by these justices? Were there a series of poor rulings? No, there was one ruling--JUST ONE--with which the loudmouths disagreed.

Was the ruling wrong? Was it legally invalid? Was it poorly reasoned? No, the loudmouths just don't like the result. It favored the fags.

Way to go, Iowa.

I see a few people talking about repealing healthcare and what ia needed. 2/3rds to override a veto, but what about the senate. If the house passes a repeal, does the senate also have to agree to repeal it, even before it gets to a veto?

ABC said it failed. :(

I blame Obama.

I'll vote tomorrow duuude.

Yes, laws need to be passed by both houses as I was so informed by Schoolhouse Rock:

Just like any other bill, the Senate and House have to agree before it ever gets to the President's desk.

This is why state Supreme Court justices should be appointed for life.

It's the same way here, except in Illinois the problem is how dependent judges are on the politicians who almost literally own them.

It can't be repealed, however all funding bills must originate in the House, so they can certainly defund the health bill.

I see Vermont is still too close to call on the Governor's race. Interesting, as the Democrat, Peter Shumlin, was trailing after the primary, which he won only after a recount, but his opponent, Brian Dubie, considered the man to beat in summer, may have dropped the ball after an uncharacteristically negative campaign. I guess we'll see.

Just breaking now : Dubie (R) concedes to Shumlin (D)

Why can't it be repealed? Can't congress pass a bill that undoes everything the Healthcare bill did?

Nice. Well you guys elected them...now ly in the bed you made.

Shame really. You have to know that as an outsider my desire for you to have universal healthcare is purity for benevolent reasons.

That's going to be tough, since there aren't too many actuall parts in play right now that are governemnt funded, except medicare and they aren't going to touch that.

Even assuming they could pass it in both houses (not very likely) Obama would surely veto it, and they don't have near enough votes to override a veto.

This wasn't a UHC bill by any means.

Okay, you said it can't be repealed, but meant won't be repealed. It is possible to repeal the Healthcare bill or any other bill for that matter. I do agree with you that it is highly unlikely that Healthcare will be repealed.

A few people admitted losing their ballots. Most people said they never got a ballot, and about half of those said it was because they had recently moved.

What caused the Franklin ballot kerfuffle? If you know.

Similar to what you describe, in large part; a number of ballots that just didn't get mailed when they should have, and no body checked on the folks tasked with the mailing.

Looking at the counties' estimated votes left to be counted tomorrow, and the trend in said counties for Murray or Rossi, it looks like Murray will be the winner.

Yeah! I am glad I spent yesterday and today doing my part. :D

I spent election day knocking on doors for Congressman Perlmutter and Senator Bennet. Perlmutter was declared a winner last night and this morning it looks like Bennet came from behind to edge out Buck. :D

I know...I know. Unfortunately, that is likely only a dream for the USA, but you have to start somewhere, and there are a lot of good things in the bill.

The GOP constructed a strawman of the health care bill and campaigned against that strawman.
