This book has been touted as the “answer” to the recent spate of popular books by atheists, particularly Dawkins, Dennett, Harris and Hitchens. Hedges, a journalist with the New York Times, was raised Christian and attended Harvard Divinity School. He has written on religion in the United...
I was reading an interview with Dawkins in the Times yesterday and he briefly pointed out that in the UK the rising religious fundamentalism in the country is mainly contained in Islam. By fundamentalism I mean refusing to learn about evolution, calling for religion to be taught prominently over...
Lately, I've encountered much opposition towards Richard Dawkins, but the suprising thing about this is that it's mostly coming from atheists. Even my good friend who is probably the most hardcore atheist I know said that he cannot stand the illogic and weak arguments of Dawkins and just wishes...
My search-fu is weak today, so I did not see this posted.
Break the Science Barrier is avialable for free via Mr. Dawkins website. I thought some of you may be intereted in it.
I have not read Hitchens or Dennett's books, yet I hope to get around to the latters' soon (Hitchens has the tendency to either enrage me or enlighten me).
I have just finished both of Sam Harris' books, and have to argue that The End Of Faith is a better book than The God Delusion. Dawkins'...
For anyone who has read them or heard them speak, they ask the same question. "Why is religion offered special priviledges?"
I think I have an answer, but I want to pose it to you guys to see if it's sound. Maybe if there is no flaw in this reasoning, I might shoot Dawkins an Email.
In order...
Ian Wishart is a New Zealand journalist and Christian fundy, he also is a prolific author with somewhat of an ego - and in his most recent book the 'Divinity Code' he takes on Richard Dawkins position.
Have a read of his abstract here http://www.investigatemagazine.com/divcodepreview.pdf

Today's Fresh Air (NPR) will have both men on, representing opposing sides of the question of God's existence.
Not saying if this will be a debate, or just a statement/interview from both.
Anybody else planning to see Richard Dawkins at Columbia on March 15th?

Sam Harris has put Stanley Fish's editorial called The Three Atheists, originally published in the New York Times, up on his website. Here's the beginning:
Full article.
I was just reading another thread where a poster is making assumptions about atheist beliefs. I would like to get a better reading on how forumites think about God. This is stolen from Dawkins' "God Delusion"; sorry if this poll happened before.
just listening to it now. Bunting is no more convincing in print either. So much wooly thinking she could start a sheep farm.

Hi All,
I am reading the blind watchmaker, the chapter where Dawkins present his evolution programs (the one which build the various graphics).
Since I like to programs (I and like to fool myself into thinking I am a not-too-bad one) but I am a poor biologist, I decided to make a similar...
Priest?, Preach? Church? Crusade? Someone's overdosed on the religious vocabulary, deliberately ironically or not.
I hope this won't be a rebranding like the controversial "brights", but I like the follwing quote, sounds a good enough reason to go:

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I haven't noticed it. The video of a two-hour roundtable discussion among Dawkins, Harris, Dennett, and Hitchens is available on Google Video.

My recommendation for a weekend afternoon:
1. Mix martini
2. Start video...
"Our guest on the Have Your Say programme on Sunday 9 December will be Professor Richard Dawkins. He is an outspoken atheist who says science explains the world better than religion."

I was looking for different videos of Richard Dawkins and I stumbled upon this one. If you haven't seen it, you really should:

A new movie starring Ben Stein about how scientists "supress" intelligent design is coming out in 2008. It includes Michael Behe, Richard Sternberg, Stephen C. Meyer, Richard Dawkins, Eugenie Scott, PZ Meyers, and many others.
An extended clip of the movie including Dawkins was shown this...
Well checked the tags, surprised this hasn't been mentioned, maybe I missed it ,

So, because it's hilarious, I signed up to be on the update e-mail list for "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed". They sent out a notice last night that Wed. October 3, there will be a "God Delusion Debate" with Richard Dawkins vs. John Lennox in Alabama. Actually, they sent the same e-mail...
I saw the atheists excellent thread on the "paranormalists" winning, and the lamentable decline in to superstition which I'm sure we all oppose. I have a rather heretical thought, and while perhaps it should live in religion it's actually about "paranormal" beliefs, and their relationship to...

I kind of like the idea and plan to buy a shirt. Obviously, it is not for everyone, but I do think it serves a useful purpose.
I suspect that more than a handful of Christians in the U.S. will describe this organization as persecuting religion.
