The idea is that birds are what they descended from and therefore are dinosaurs. So then dinosaurs too are whatever they descended from.
Surprise ... birds are dinosaurs and dinosaurs are what? If we are clever and accurate to say that birds are dinosaurs then what should we say that dinosaurs...
This Paper just came out.
Nuclear preservation in the cartilage of the Jehol dinosaur Caudipteryx:jaw-dropp
I guess technically what they really did was use a stain that attaches to threads of chromatin. And it dyed the nuclear area of some de-siliconized cells found in a dinosaur...
Is there any way in the future, that the actual color of dinosaurs will be revealed? From what I have read, it is believed that some had patterns, stripes, spots . . .
The theory that they were dull colors that blended in with the surroundings, may have been true for some. But I doubt it is...

I read this comic many years ago and recall it being one of the funnier ones. Never knew it influenced...
Dinosaurs may not continue as either lizard or bird hipped based on recent findings. Heard about it today on Science Friday (stayed in car instead of going into restaurant until segment ended).......
More here...
You've probably seen ads for Jurassic Quest -- the family fun animatronic/dino-puppet show delighting children of all ages in convention centers and fairgrounds across the US.
Does anyone have any firsthand experience with this thing? They seem to be all about the fun of seeing giant, moving...
I have read a lot about the possible catastrophe that caused the dinosaurs to go extinct. The meteor that killed them off did not only have the direct effect of the impact, but is also supposed to have blanketed the Earth for years, causing most plants to die, and freezing down the planet for a...
I'm hoping a biology person can answer this. I've been looking at pictures of featherless chickens and birds, and it's occurred to me that the way a chicken's wings sit are basically upside down compared to a T Rex.
I know for years people have wondered what their little claw arms are doing...
So the recent discoveries in paleontology have been showing that there is evidence that birds descended from dinosaurs, birds have feathers, and some dinosaurs have feathers.

There is one discovery...
Just finished the wonderful science book Feathers as he traces the path from dinosaurs to birds and then this fine fellow wandered down the beach yesterday.
Got me thinking what kind of rich colours the dinos may have sported.
We always seem to see them portrayed a dull gray green.....
The...
Let's face it, large Dinos must have produced a lot of crap. and presumably these gigantic crap pats had to be disposed of somehow. So, is there any evidence or fossils of early equivalents of today's ◊◊◊◊ eaters?
(Just a silly, but semi-serious question, because sometimes my mind wanders...
The Smithsonian is closing down the dinosaur hall for a five year, $48M renovation.

Short but interesting just out today (and apparently it has not been entered here yet - apologies if it has) but I have not seen it: http://www.livescience.com/28401-north-america-geology.html
South Korea surrenders to creationist demands
This comes as a total surprise to me. Creationism in South Korea? Who would have thought. But I also didn't know that there are so many Christians in SK. Yet:
Some new, astounding finds from China, make dinosaurs seem enigmatic than ever

Well, you just know they're bound to clone velociraptors from DNA in amber sometime.
And when (not if) they eat you, who's going to take care of your beloved pets?
Firstly, I guess this could fit into an of several topics, because it's conspiracy theory, scientific, paranormal, etc. I just wanted to share my pain.
Tonight at 12am i got a call from my mother asking me to check my email and to PLEASE read the website she linked with an open mind. I opened...
A new early sauropod has been added to the lineup, from Arizona - Sarahsaur (the parent clade is actually sauropodamorpha, and includes all sauropods as well as Sarah). It is named for the philanthropist, Sarah Butler. Though a sauropod, it appears to have walked on its hind two feet and the...
Introducing Mojoceratops perifania
the best new dinosaur name of the year. The proud, horned mojo: http://news.discovery.com/dinosaurs/mojoceratops-sported-heart-shaped-head-frill.html#mkcpgn=rssnws1
To hell with Latin - tell it how it is!!
My wife shared this lovely tidbit from the local paper, the News Leader, in Macedonia, OH. Apparently Answers in Genesis is hosting a two day creationism conference at a church just down the road from my house. It "includes five sessions with topics covering aliens, dinosaurs, and "The Mystery...
New big study:
It's official: An asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100304/sc_nm/us_dinosaurs_asteroid
You've always gotta look at who benefits. We got something here maybe, but the details are a little unclear. What does anyone else think?
:wackyskeptical:
A recent study has uncovered evidence of the possible coloration of a particular dinosaur, Sinosauropteryx, to be that of reddish-orange like Conan O'Brien's hair.

I'm not bringing this up here to dispute the evidence (having...
