Email from my mother, wasted one hour of my life, want to scream

Firstly, I guess this could fit into an of several topics, because it's conspiracy theory, scientific, paranormal, etc. I just wanted to share my pain.

Tonight at 12am i got a call from my mother asking me to check my email and to PLEASE read the website she linked with an open mind. I opened it later and couldn't believe how poorly written it was, and then i was forced to spend an hour replying to the email with a bit by bit response to the "article". At the end i felt so empty knowing that no matter how hard i worked to illustrate the plethora of errors and lies in the article, she wouldn't absorb any of it and would only see me as a contrarian.

Take a look at this garbage. It makes me wish the internet didn't exist.

I'm interested in hearing how people would respond to this article if their mother had fallen for it and they had try to undo the damage.

I have no idea how old your Mum is, but mine is 79 and she believes all manner of codswallop like the stuff in your link. I don't, as you do, wish the 'net didn't exist, but I'm most certainly happy that my mother hasn't availed herself of it, else I'd be exactly where you are now.

Frankly, I think we can afford to give up on the generation before us, and concentrate our efforts on the one that comes after. Is your mother in a position to spread this tripe to anyone else in your family? Siblings, cousins, grandchildren, etcetera? Bypass Mum, leave her to her fantasies, and try to make sure that nobody else on her cc list is being taken in.

I guess I dealt with a sort of similar situation with my daughter. Her mother (and associated family) are decidedly Catholic, and there was no way I was ever going to be able to dissuade them from their (to me) loopy ideas, or even forbid them from imposing them on my little girl, so I resorted to quietly subverting her when nobody was looking.

As you can imagine, I trod a fine line in doing this (between hypocrisy and diplomacy, mostly) and I've ended up with a lovely Catholic-veneered daughter with the proper black heart of an atheist. It's a compromise that I can live with, and a better result than open warfare would have achieved.

I would have simply said that there are dozens of errors in that short article and I can document the 15 most important ones if you would like. After all, you are not interested in hearing her side and she is not interested in hearing yours, so what is the point of researching it all for an hour if it will not change her mind in the least?
