The topic of this thread is not the referendum (plenty of threads to talk about that) but what folk think will be the outcome of the likes of Cameron's resignation.
On the Tory side I can't see there being any leadership candidate that isn't much to the right of Cameron and Osborne so I can see...
In a speech outside 10 Downing Street he said:
"The British people have voted to leave the EU and their will must be respected.
The will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered.
There can be no doubt about the result.
Across the world people have been watching the...

Given his wording it seems like David Cameron himself should himself learn to respect the rule of law.
We are in interesting times but for David Cameron's party with his increased majority, no coalition partner to keep them in check and for their party no change in Scotland.(They had 1 seat before the election in Scotland and have 1 seat after the election). I am wondering how he will balance...
Hot on the heels of Labour's outrage over David Cameron saying that he'd serve a full second term if elected (but wouldn't seek a third term), the conservatives have claimed that Labour would raise taxes by £3,028 a household.
This claim, like so many from all sides, does not stand up to...
I'm no fan of David Cameron or the party of which he is the leader but IMO this is a case of making political mountains out of molehills of the worst kind.
One of the stories doing the rounds at the moment in the UK is Labour claiming that David Cameron is arrogant for stating that, should he...
Ukip have their first MP. BBC
Douglas Carswell, Conservative defector, won Clacton easily last night. They also came damned close in Lancashire.
Along with topping the popular vote in the European elections recently, this is a huge breakthrough for them, and a nightmare for the Conservatives...
Despite all the "on-a-knife-edge" wishful thinking, Scotland has voted 55% to 45% to stay in the Union. David Cameron immediately announced that the promised additional powers for Scotland would involve a solution for the West Lothian question......in other words, Scottish MPs will have no say...
European leaders have agreed to the first-ever reduction in the European Union’s budget, in a significant diplomatic victory for David Cameron.

Amazing - Cameron...
No thread on this yet?
What do people think? (And can his EU promises be trusted?)
Edit: Hmmm, meant to have a poll but my connection crashed, something like:
a) About time we had a referendum (and I want renegotiation or out!)
b) I support a referendum (but would vote to stay in).
c) No...
Linky.
... Or not.
I've read a few common criticisms so far. The first is the "we have more pressing matters" or "this is a waste of time and money" tactic. I dismiss those out of hand.
I do think creating an elected "Senate" is a bad move. Perhaps I read biased sources, but the common thing...
Coming from a country where "conservative" usually means anti-gay bigotry among other things, I was surprised and encouraged to read this article about Britain's conservatives:
British Conservatives lead charge for gay marriage
What else is different about British conservatives compared to...

I remember Barrack Obama saying the USA isn't a Christian country. Never thought I'd be envying the USA about this type of thing.
Also, I'd have thought it far more likely the "moral collapse" in the UK is due to the astronomical wealth...
Not my words, but the words of a senior Tory MP:

Maybe this doesn't really deserve its own thread, but I wanted to start it just for the thread title :)

The Human Rights Act 1998 is the incorporation into UK Law of the European Convention on Human Rights, which was first drafted in the early fifties.
The HRA was designed to allow British citizens to bring cases which would fall within the scope of...
Strikes among public sector workers begin
As strikers don't get paid I am glad to see the public sector is finally doing something to address the deficit.
I don't believe these strikers have popular support. In a somewhat biased and unscientific poll in my office I found 5 against this...
Metgate (phreaking journos)
Not a good week for the Metropolitan Police following the New York Times' story on the phone hacking scandal involving the News of the World from a couple of years back.
At the time, the editor of the NotW, Andy Coulson, resigned and one of its journalists was...
The world's worst kept secret is finally out - the UK election will be on May 6th....

Now that all that American health care dross has been filted out of the forum let's discuss what really matters - does...
Cameron, open neck shirt at the ready, ventures into a Gay Times interview in the aim of dispelling the air of Clause 28 that hangs around the Tories. The following is the result, which begins with a discussion on a EU vote in favour of gay rights. I understand some Tory MEP's voted against it...
This will be fun. Will Americans watch it, like the British obsessively watched Obama versus McCain last year?

But should the SNP take place? They are threatening to take their case to court.
It's going round that Brown will call a general election in March, hoping to avoid the Budget and take advantage of the most favourable poll numbers Labour have got in years (Some put it as close as 6%).

March election 'Likely'...
David Cameron has apparently called for the Conservative party to get rid of nonsensical Health & Safety laws. Maybe he should have consulted this useful website rather than just listening to the outraged tabloids? :)

Why it's very likely the next election will result in a hung Parliament.
Well the Conservatives "cast-iron promise" to have a referendum isn't being kept to. Now granted that circumstances have changed but it seems rather strange that when the circumstances changed for Labour's promise of a referendum on the Constitutional Treaty the Conservatives claimed that was...
