When we moved to Xenfora some of the signature options didn't come over. I've set maximum number of lines to 4 and unlimited characters.

Cont: The Marjorie Taylor Greene thread - Part II

Another stunning piece of stupidity from MTG
In a Christmas Eve message on her official government X account:

"Merry Christmas Eve everyone!! It's the last Christmas under Democrat Communist control.
"Freedom is coming!"

The @POTUS Twitter account is official, and has been for years, and changes hands.

MTG has been on Twitter for years, but whether reps' accounts are "official government accounts", I don't know.

Perhaps a lot of the problems being perpetrated in government is because twats like MTG and suchlike are Xcreting their vitriol through NON-GOVERNMENT channels to the public. And Muskrat is perpetuating that because X is his baby and he wants influence.

While Musk has no more official influence on government than any other singular US citizen, to the public and some elected members, Musk has created an apparent equivalence between himself and government because they all use the same channels and respond to each other.

By all of them talking through X and even though he is entirely unelected or appointed to office, Musk has insinuated himself into government with a voice that appears as powerful as government, carrying weight on government matters that are, frankly, none of his ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ business to be involved in.

Yes, the official official government account is whitehouse.gov and it pays to remember that, despite Mr Musk's wishes.

Madge's latest idiocy.
"Terrorist attack in NOLA similar to the one in the German Christmas market," Greene said on X, formerly Twitter. "What did we expect would happen with wide open borders and millions of gotaways? The problem is no one trust [sic] the FBI under the current leadership, so everyone is questioning every detail they can find in their own."
Except the driver of the truck was born and raised in Texas.

Trump, I believe, has said something to the same effect, that this had something to do with illegal immigration, when of course it did not. I'm really starting to despair of a social/political system that elects people to positions of responsibility that we should be able to trust to at least keep their mouths shut until they know the facts of a case before opining on it; instead, we seem to have a predilection to elect those who not only won't wait for the facts before yapping but can't be trusted to correct themselves after they're shown afterwards by the facts to be wrong. They just do not care about anything beyond their own little, and largely imaginary, grievances; it's a deliberate myopia in positions that demand more clear vision.

I agree with Marge. The Texas border is wide open with Texans flowing out freely. A wall should be built so no more dangerous people can come out of that state.

There you go being all reasonable and stuff again. You'll never learn. For the troompa loompas it's always a win. If an immigrant did it it's because of the immigrants of course because an immigrant is nothing but an immigrant. If a non immigrant did it it's the immigrants' fault because (pick one: 1. the immigrants took all the jobs, and we're all starving to death, 2: the immigrants are changing your children's sex, forcing them to read Paradise Lost*, and canceling your dishwasher, 3: I forget what, but there's an immigrant in the woodpile somewhere, you know there is, or 4: none of the above, but it's immigrants all the way down).

Stock up on chocolate and good books. Its going to be a long winter.

*Yes, now among the books banned from school libraries in Orange County, Florida.

The thing is, there's a good chance they do know the facts of the case (or in T****y's instance has been told about them), but decide to lie anyway.

It just makes me want to tear out my hair. IIUC, both Greene and Trump based their little rants on a Fox news report that the truck used in the attack had crossed over into Texas from Mexico a couple of days earlier- so, of course, "immigrants!" when even based on that report you could not automatically conclude so. Fox retracted that report an hour later, but in the meantime, the lie took wings and flew all over the world at the speed of the internet and gobless Greene and Trump (also Josh Hawley). If they didn't know the facts first, they should have waited for them; and knowing them now should be an impetus for them to at least say "oops." But it's "they're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the cats" all over again, and this is what we have to look forward to for at least the next four years- government based on not knowing or caring what's actually true or even, god forbid, waiting to find out because "I heard it on TV" or "I saw it on X" is more immediate and gratifying.

Fortunately I do have plenty of books. My latest subject of interest has been the Popish Plot and the murder of Sir Edmund Berry Godfrey in 1670's England- a subject not entirely without parallels to today's events, except with Catholics instead of immigrants but the same cast of politicians who don't care about what's true, only what's useful. It's an eternal thing, I guess- but they didn't have TV or social media back then, so the lies were slower and the harm arguably less.
