Froot loopy Anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. challenging Biden for presidency

Another RFK Jr. article by David Gorski at Science-Based Medicine:
Last week, RFK Jr. endured hilariously bad press about an NYC press event at which two of his supporters argued over climate change, one with lots of farts. However, the fart jokes soon gave way to darker side of the event, a Q&A in which RFK Jr. shared an antisemitic conspiracy theory claiming that COVID-19 might have been “targeted” against Caucasians and Blacks, while sparing Jews and the Chinese. Antivaxxers leapt to his defense, but one wonders if the ”respectable” doctors who “like RFK Jr.” have learned their lesson yet.
RFK Jr.: A fart-filled argument gives way to an antisemitic conspiracy theory that COVID-19 is an “ethnically targeted” bioweapon (Science-Based Medicine, July 17, 2023)

I read in my news feed I read while commuting that he is now trying to walk this back or explain it away, due to the blowback he has gotten. Must try to find the article...

Seems to be a bit of confusion.

While Kennedy's sister and nephew condemn his views, his campaign has condemned "this disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory". Ummm, okay... the disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory that he's been promoting?

And yet, it seems that Kennedy himself is crying foul because the New York Post quoted him and showed a video of him airing this disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory, but when he stated this disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory he was in an off-the-recrod conversation. His disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory is being used against him because... umm... rules are .... that he doesn't want people judging him for his disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory.

Close Kennedy family members weighing in reflects the growing outrage at Kennedy’s words, which he tried to disavow on Monday in a statement sent to the Guardian by his campaign staff.

“The New York Post story is mistaken. I have never, ever suggested that the Covid-19 virus was engineered to ‘spare Jews,’ and I unequivocally reject this disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory,” he said.

“New York Post reporter Jon Levine exploited this off-the-record conversation to smear me as an antisemite. This cynical maneuver is consistent with the mainstream media playbook to discredit me as a crank - and by association, to discredit revelations of genuine corruption and collusion.”

Separate messages sent to the Guardian purportedly from Kennedy’s personal email address cite Wikipedia links to press articles about the plausibility of ethnically-targeted bioweapons.

“The study is solid, and not at all controversial,” one of the messages says of a research paper by the British Medical Association, reported by the Guardian in 2004, that “rogue scientists” could develop bioweapons designed to target certain ethnic groups based on their genetic differences.

His disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory is not at all controversial! That's his story and he's sticking to it.

Clear? Stop associating him with disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theories that he is both condemning and declaring to be uncontroversial facts.

It could be a scene from Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Larry hosting a dinner party, when Cheryl turns up with her husband, RFK Jr.

Larry asks RFK Jr if he is an anti-vaxxer, RFK Jr denies it, Larry does the interrogation stare.

Then during dinner, RFK Jr starts becoming ever more expansive with his conspiracy theories.

Suzie asks RFK Jr if it's true that he is an anti-Semite.
Lucy Liu at the dinner as Larry's current girlfriend asks if he is anti-Chinese.
RFK Jr denies he ever said it and says it is all a conspiracy theory.
Then Leon asks if Covid disporportionately targets black people
RFK instantly asserts that it does, and that it spares Chinese and Jews.
Table erupts in uproar, RFK gets up and runs off down the street.
Theme tune plays.
Credits roll.

A nutjob in so many ways.

Speaking virtually during an event hosted by Heal the Divide, a super PAC with ties to far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green and embattled Rep. George Santos, Kennedy said that he both wants to “exempt the conversion of Bitcoin to the U.S. dollar from capital gains taxes” as well as “back the U.S. dollar with real finite assets, such as gold, silver, platinum, and Bitcoin.”

house gop invited him to speak at a hearing about censorship. not sure why, presumably to make the dems look bad. as if, somehow, agreeing with everything he's saying is going to make the other side look bad.

If Bitcoin is so solid, why would you want to convert it to dollars?

Reminds me of all those ads exhorting people to buy gold because it's safer. Why aren't you just buying it yourself?

Well, I am buying it but unless you and a whole bunch of other fools do too, the price will fall dramatically and I'll loose my "investment". Capiche?

Or indeed, why is the same person selling gold ("very safe!") for dollars ("unstable fiat currency!"?

Scathing!
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell describes how “Kennedy privilege” allows Robert Kennedy Jr. to amplify his lies denouncing the work of scientists, physicians, and public health experts to the delight of Trump Republicans.

The video does raise a real concern. From news reports, RFK draws about
19% of the electorate in general and 14% of democrats. If the Label Party
picks him as their candidate instead of a milk toast moderate who attracts
nobody, then we face a terrible three way of Biden, RGK, and Trump on stage
next year.

P. S. An alternative point of view does exit.

But it's behind a pay wall, so we cannot comment on that.

Tweet from RFK Jr.:
Some Googling will find rebuttals to RFK Jr.'s claim that the US put Aegis systems in Ukraine. I recommend comparing the trustworthiness and track record of RFK Jr. and the rebuttal sources Googling brings up.

The more I know about RFK Jr., the nuttier I think he is.

The simplest rebuttal would be that the Aegis is an integrated naval weapons system; in other words, it's part of a ship, coincidentally called an Aegis destroyer. I suppose one could be deployed to the Black Sea but its range would provide very limited air defense for Ukraine and there would be a couple thousand pictures of it floating around.

Why not demand that the B-3 bombers be deployed?

A land-based version has also been developed and is deployed in Poland.

Poland-based Aegis Ashore missile defense moves toward full operation

Poland is not Ukraine - so Kennedy is still wrong. I suppose they could install it near the border and provide coverage over part of Ukraine if they really wanted to, but that's still not the same as putting it in Ukraine itself.

i think republicans pushing him as a cool guy that agrees with them on everything is more likely to peel off never trumpers than any dems from biden.

Trump-Kennedy 2024!
In all seriousness, I give this about a 30% chance of happening.
In the unlikely even Trump doesn't get the R nomination, he needs someone even crazier than him for his running mate in his independent campaign. Kennedy fits, and isn't a RINO.
And if Trump is the R nominee, which is probable, he's not going to want any RINOS or Trump-Haters (i.e. anyone running against him) as a running mate. RFKJr agrees with Trump on so many things, including Covid Conspiracies, Vaccine Conspiracies, and Election Fraud. And as pointed out in the Lawrence O'Donnell video above, all anyone has to do is say something nice about Kennedy and he's all over them.

Now Kennedy is gish galloping about NSA surveillance. Typical tinfoil-er.

It's on Twitter, and it's Kennedy, so I don't want to link to it.

I have access to the WP article. I'll take a look at it.

I doubt that he will be able to do much more than split the QAnon vote. (Of course, that won't happen if he runs with Trump.) Do the Democrats who favor him know about his actual politics? Aren't they taken in by the name more than by what he actually stands for? Do they even know what his politics are? The number of Kennedys warning against him may help them understand that.

By the way, RFK Jr. has already disappointed the TI community by not being nutty enough to support the idea that they are being targeted by deep-state agents using mind-altering directed energy weapons: http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=14094614#post14094614
But based on what he has said recently, I don't think he has very far to go to get there ...

The WP article shares my assumption:
But as we argued back in April, Kennedy’s support appeared largely inflated by his famous last name.
As Republicans elevate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his polls sour (Washington Post, July 20, 2023)

From April:
The 2017 Alabama U.S. Senate special election featured a candidate by the name of Robert Kennedy Jr. (no actual relation this time). And a late Democratic primary poll showed him with a shocking share of the vote: 49 percent. That was more than 20 points ahead of the national party’s favored candidate, Doug Jones, despite Kennedy not seeming to have run an actual campaign.
“I understand that my name will give me some points,” that Robert Kennedy Jr. said when the poll came out. “But to suggest that my name in that particular poll gave me 49 points is disrespectful to the voters.”
Three weeks later, he received 18 percent of the vote, losing to Jones by nearly 50 points.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s threat to Biden is inflated in polls. Here’s why. (Washington Post, April 27, 2023)

From July 20 (actual links included!):
Kennedy’s support in the Democratic primary is down slightly from those unexpected early polls, which pegged him around 20 percent. But more significant than that, Democratic voters have perhaps predictably turned on him as they actually learn about him.
Around the same time as those early polls, a YouGov survey showed Kennedy with the best image rating of more than a dozen political figures. And he was double-digits popular across the political spectrum.
That is far from the case now.
Quinnipiac University released a poll Wednesday showing Republicans continue to like Kennedy — by more than a 2-to-1 margin, in fact. But among Democrats, Kennedy’s image was more than 2-to-1 negative. While 21 percent had a favorable opinion, 47 percent had an unfavorable one. That’s 26 points “underwater,” up from 15 points underwater a month ago.

ETA: There are a few 'alternative-facts' fans in the comments section of the 20 July article:
The Truth I Believe
HIT pieces like this: propaghanda, are the major psy-op he is up against.

I really think it's time all you Dems. who comment and blindly follow Biden look at other alternative views before putting your heads back in the sand.

It appears to be far fewer than 19 percent with the same trolls repeating themselves, but I have only looked at the most recent comments, and "All Comments 1k".

Twitter user "The Real Truther", who calls himself the "Unofficial Fact Checker" of RFK, did a video fact checking a number of claims RFK has made on the campaign trail about COVID vaccines.
RFK's Covid Claims EXPOSED By Fact-Checker (The Majority Report w/ Sam Seder on YouTube, July 22, 2023 - 10:28 min.)

During his recent appearance in front of a congressional hearing on censorship, RFK Jr. claimed he was not an anti-vaxxer despite constantly regurgitating anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and falsehoods any time he gets on camera.
King Of Anti-Vaccine Propaganda, RFK Jr. Claims He's Pro-Vaccine (The Majority Report w/ Sam Seder on YouTube, July 24, 2023 - 8:32 min.)

Elon Musk is suggesting Bronny James, Lebron's son, suffered cardiac arrest due to the Covid vaccine:
"We cannot ascribe everything to the vaccine, but, by the same token, we cannot ascribe nothing. Myocarditis is a known side-effect. The only question is whether it is rare or common."

There is no indication that Bronny James had/has myocarditis. This is just Musk pushing his anti-vaccine crap on X formerly known as Twitter.

RFK Jr's camp paid an anti-vaxxer group that spread falsehoods about GMO's causing autism and a group whose podcasts also discuss witchcraft and reptilian people. They also paid $21,493 to two GOP politicians and $5000 to a GOP firm for direct mail service.
Among Republicans he's +26 points in favorability and -26 points among Dems.

The GOP loves them some kooks!

Which hopefully Democratic voters will also recognize as we get closer to the election.

Much as he's been in the news, especially so for his anti-COVID vaccine nonsense, I'm pretty sure not that many people know much about him.

From your link:

"DeSantis lofted the idea that Kennedy could serve as his administration’s attack dog, battling the nation’s top health agencies. 'Sic him on the FDA, if he’d be willing to serve,' DeSantis said. 'Or sic him on CDC.'

Roger Stone, the notorious GOP dirty trickster pardoned by Trump, also argued in his most recent podcast that Kennedy deserves consideration for a Cabinet pick in a future Trump administration. "

Birds of a feather and all. I've never seen a party work so hard to out crazy each other and elect absolute nutcases. They just continue to go lower and lower under the loony tunes limbo bar.

Interesting... maybe if he runs "no label" party he'll take more votes off Trump than Biden.

Its like the GoP just wants to go crazier and crazier... left/right is starting to become meaningless.
