Really? You think "Wow, that Obama sure doesn't talk like a stereotypical black guy, and hah hah, convenience stores are all run by Indians" is equivalent to "Man, if only the rest of the country had voted for the ardent racist and segregationist who ran for President as the candidate for this political party, like I did, the country wouldn't have had all those problems, ifyaknowwhatImean"?
Is it really too much to ask that when you put something in quotes it really be, you know, a quote, or at least something that's close in spirit?
Trent Lott was trying to say something nice about an old fart on the occasion of his 100th birthday. I very much doubt that he was trying to say that segregration would have been better for the country, especially as he was at a public gathering, with members of the press and politicians of both parties in attendance.
