Merged Fred Phelps nearly dead/Is dead.

Who the hell is Halley?

I don't need "reports," there are photos. Phelps preached raw, sheer hatred. According to members of his family, including his son Nathan, he was physically abusive and little less than a tyrant.

She's referring to me and my post linking to "Addicted to Hate". She's trying to claim that if I posted information, it must not be reliable.

Of course, this is a woman who described Fred Phelps a good example of a moral, upright Christian, so take her criticism of my sources with the appropriate quantity of salt.

Too soon?

Surviving the World has what may be the final, definitive word on the legacy of Fred Phelps:

Lesson #2062 - Legacies

I winder if Fred Phelps is screaming at Jesus right now - calling him a "Faggot" because he never had a girlfriend or wife?

Just as an exercise in time-wasting...

The list of things hated by Phelps and the WBC was quite long, and by no means limited to Mormons and fags (to say nothing about gay Mormons).

I was trying to think of something that is NOT hated by the WBC. Any ideas?

Puppies? Does God hate fag-enabling puppies?
Sunsets?
Raindrops on roses? (Oh wait, that sounds a little gay)
.
His daughter asked that the Phelps family be termed "the most hated family in the world", not "the most hated family in the US".
Man, whatever they got, everyone needs vaccination from!

I'm pretty sure there are a LOT of people who are hated more than the Phelps family. People who commit genocide for example.

In related news, Snopes is already addressing this completely predictable rumor:

Claim: Notorious homophobe and Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps made a deathbed confession that he was gay.

There's also a rumor addressed in the article, equally false, that he served in the military and will be buried in Arlington national cemetery.

Fred Phelps arrived at the Pearly Gates and discovered that only gays would have covered their gates in pearlies. He immediately applied for a transfer.

;)

Recently a teacher, a garbage collector, and Fred Phelps wound up together
at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter informed them that in order to get into Heaven,
they would each have to answer one question.

St. Peter addressed the teacher and asked,

"What was the name of the ship that crashed into the iceberg? They made a big movie about it some years back."

The teacher answered quickly, "That would be the Titanic."

St. Peter let him through the gate.

St. Peter turned to the garbage man and, figuring Heaven didn't *really* need
all the odors that this guy would bring with him, decided to make the question
a little harder: "How many people died on the ship?"

Fortunately for him, the trash man had just seen the movie. "1,228," he answered.

"That's right! You may enter."

St. Peter turned to Fred Phelps and said, "Name them."

The hatred demonstrated by many on this forum towards genuine Christians and those who stand for true Christian morality is blatant evidence that few if any have any qualifications nor right to judge or condemn Fred Phelps.

?

I've seen them protest a funeral for a service member KIA'd in Iraq.

What part of "true xtian morality" would that be? must have missed that part in catholic school.

I've said it before - if somebodies christian beliefs leads them to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and shelter the homeless, fine. If it's to yell and carry on and tell people what kind of fire the man upstairs has in store for 'em they're ********.

WBC is the latter.

 Any solid evidence and not speculation?

Depends on the accuracy of the earlier part of this thread. With things like the deadly departed I honestly have no problem with speculation and defamation.

Or as I was just reminded by Ms/Dr. fuelair, with defecation in relation to his grave.

I found this interesting, particularly Mr Darnell's account of his dealings with Megan and Grace Phelps-Roper. http://chaddarnell.typepad.com/runchadrun2/2014/03/in-defense-of-fred-phelps.html

I've seen a few documentaries on the WBC, two of them by Louis Theroux, and one of the main thing that always struck me about them was, abhorrent views aside, how nice all the young members of the church were. They seemed like people that it'd be really pleasant spending time with. And, indeed, I've read several reports from people who have met the younger members of the church, while they were still members of the church, and have had extended conversations with them, even at their houses within the church and a common thread is, again, how personable they are. And those are reports from Jews, gay people, etc. all of whom met the Phelps clan through being protested against.

And predictably there will be numerous people stupid enough to believe it.

Farewell you disgusting alleged human being. The world is a better place without you.

Once again incorrectly stating another poster as saying something they did not say. Evidence please.

Signs. They like signs to hold. They do not hate signs.

Beyond that, I got nuthin'
And really, really bad music. They have this ongoing habit of taking popular songs, and rewriting them with lyrics that suit their cause, and then singing them either at protests, or sometimes even as hymns during their services. Following is an example of how they re-wrote "Royals" by Lorde (in anticipation of protesting one of her concerts). If you don't know the song, doesn't matter, the lyrics are fascinating in and of themselves:

We're coming to the end of all the flesh
We warned with pickets signs and songs and the movies
Shouldn't be proud you made this mess
You hear the trumpets sound, you'll feel God's envy

'Cause every song sings bare teeth ragin; sinning in the bedroom
bloodless coffin trashin your creator

You don't care
You're really badasses in your dreams
But in reality Christ will pay back, coming in the clouds
He'll set his thrown and mockers will be screechin' 'It ain't fair'
We'll be caught up with him in the air

We'll ever be royals, sanctified by his blood
[Indecipherable... something about "ascension," we think]
We crave a different kind of love
He has made us rulers
Sanctified to his sea
And joyful we'll rule with our King eternally

As red as blood, as black as coal
Dissolving peace you'll starve for wheat and for barley
Everyone who reads it knows what the pale horse is
You're gonna soon be sorry

CHORUS

He's greater than you ever dreamed
He's gonna make you mighty scream
Crispy 'cause you didn't care,
We'll be caught up with him in the air."

Gosh that is truly awful as poetry (even as song lyrics). I can barely take the words in through my eyes, let alone parse them with my mind.

"You'll feel God's envy"!? Weird.

"We'll be caught up with him in the air"!? Pathetic.

They did a version of "Hey Jude" that really annoyed me. The "na na na na na-na na" bit at the end they changed to "hey evil reprobate Jews, God hates you, and you know it". The thing that annoys me (other than the obvious) is the last line. The last line in the actual song is two syllables - "hey Jude". "and you know it" is four syllables. Surely the obvious thing to sing is "hey Jews"?

I mean, come on. It's so easy to get right, and they failed.

I've not seen this posted in the thread yet, Nate Phelps speaks about his father's death:

<snip>

Wow. Nate is a truly great man. He proves that human nature is not to be simplistically dismissed as so many do, decrying the species for all the brutal and nasty behaviour. Nate proves it is possible to survive abuse and ignorance and indoctrination to bloom into a real and humanist human being of wisdom and compassion.

Thanks for posting this link. :)
