I'm trying to think of something appropriate for an atheist group to do for/at any services for Phelps... ??
But I keep coming to the conclusion that as we know there is nothing left after death, all any observance there might do is to pity the guy's wasted life and mention the hate he fostered lives on after him.
That's just awful. It gives absolutely zero credit to the gimp in the basement. Doesn't he have feelings too, in your world of hate?
I found this interesting, particularly Mr Darnell's account of his dealings with Megan and Grace Phelps-Roper. http://chaddarnell.typepad.com/runchadrun2/2014/03/in-defense-of-fred-phelps.html
... (though likely gay himself based on recent input) ...
The hatred demonstrated by many on this forum towards genuine Christians and those who stand for true Christian morality is blatant evidence that few if any have any qualifications nor right to judge or condemn Fred Phelps.
You are not a xtian, Janadelle. Christ spoke for love, but you speak for hate.
Personally, I would be happy to be friends with any genuine xtian who didn't propound the spiritual blackmail of hell.
It's only you that I disapprove of, and not because you are a Mormon, but because of the horrible things I've seen you say in various threads.
Phelps was a sadistic brute clothing himself in religion to disguise his truly vile character. He was in the habit of repeatedly slapping the face of his babies in church to shut them up. His wife managed to get him to agree to wait until they were 1 year old before doing it, after the members of the church they were attending were appalled to see him doing it during a service to his first son who was only 5 months old. (This was before they started the Westboro church).
His son Mark's personal testimony surely trumps any other reportage (and there is documented evidence to back up the reports, such as photographs and legal records): he nearly killed Mark's brother Nate with a heavy wooden handle, after 200 home run hits with full body power swings. https://blank.org/addict/chapter2.html It was a regular torture he imposed on his children, even when just infants.
He should have been jailed many years ago. It's an indictment of the moral health of America that simply calling it a church was sufficient to deflect attention from the systematic abuse he ruled over in his little fiefdom.
Oh yes.If I had the stomach to wade through Fred Phelps past, considering his hard line Fundy Christian beliefs, I would bet that the LDS was among the many things he hated.
I thought it was 'wicked', at least that's what HP sang when Carly was ousted.Ding dong the witch is dead.
Which old witch?
The hateful witch.
Ding dong the hateful witch is dead.
Thats not an image I wanted. You'll happily excoriate homosexuals for who they get into bed with, but you just crawled into bed with Fred Phelps.
Now you understand. So for those keeping score: the Phelps clan disrupting a funeral to shout at the bereaved about why their deceased loved ones are burning in hell is protected free speech and should be tolerated by society, but people on an internet forum pointing out demonstrable factual errors in LDS doctrine and in Janadele's own claims is anti-Mormon propaganda at best or personal attacks at worst, and shouldn't be allowed if the forum were run fairly.
Careful - God hates gags, you know.
Your attitude doesn't surprise me in the least given your history of bigoted, judgmental posts in various threads. Fred Phelps typifies the agenda of hate by the Christian right towards those who don’t conform to their own warped worldview - you included. The only thing to be said in Phelps’s favor is that he was straight-forward in proclaiming his despicable views instead of dissembling them like most Conservative Christians do. No wonder many Conservative Christians disowned him, he blew their cover.
Careful - God hates gags, you know.
Just as an exercise in time-wasting...
The list of things hated by Phelps and the WBC was quite long, and by no means limited to Mormons and fags (to say nothing about gay Mormons).
I was trying to think of something that is NOT hated by the WBC. Any ideas?
Puppies? Does God hate fag-enabling puppies?
Sunsets?
Raindrops on roses? (Oh wait, that sounds a little gay)
Janadele,I do not judge Fred Phelps, I do not know him, nor do I trust much of the media.
Yes...he states that the reason God hates Pakistan is that although they made homosexuality illegal, they won't murder all the homosexuals.Although Pakistan made sodomy illegal in the 90s they do not institute Gods standard of the death penalty (Lev. 20:13 & Rom. 1:32). This is yet another instance where the Pakistani government substitutes their base judgment for Gods perfect judgment.
I don't think giving respect to child abusing, rancid bigots makes anyone "better".
Phelps will rise again. As a zombie he will be carrying a sign that says "God hates Brains!"
Here's the RW list.Just as an exercise in time-wasting...
