Dean Clifford Discussion Thread

The part of this little taped phone call that truly galls me is his characterization of some of his new friends - in just because the girlfriend made a story up about abuse - way to keep it classy.

It's like The Shawshank Redemption - the whole jail is full of innocent men.

At least to hear them tell it.

Didn't Dean's brother have a domestic violence charge leveled against him?

He also briefly mentions being charged and detained over an altercation with police in June, and says he "dealt with" the charges, and was released on Monday (probably on bail). Apparently, he didn't deal with the charges all that well, because those charges are now back.

Long story short, he's being charged with a ton of criminal offences, not just traffic offences.

Sounds to me like law enforcement and the Crown have been taking their time with Clifford and are now ready to go on all counts.
All of this is consistent with the original news reporting of his arrest (I'm assuming Clifford is misremembering this as happening in June rather than July.:

"The Canada-wide warrant was issued by Winnipeg police, who allege Clifford assaulted police, resisted arrest and obstructed police in the province.

The charges stem from an incident at a traffic stop in Winnipeg on July 13, according to Const. Eric Hofley of the Winnipeg Police Service."

Lots of crap in that post, but I'll just highlight one little tidbit that refers to his detention and release in February:

"The prosecution has also been caught out referring to prior ‘offences’ as convictions in which they were in fact and on the record to be struck off and thrown out."

Could that be because Dean pled guilty and was released on conditions and then lied about this to the freeple? (This is the current theory on the Quatloos thread). It's also somewhat predictable that the freeple are eating up the "struck out" lie, despite the plain facts available online - i.e., that it was Clifford's habeas corpus application hearing that was struck, not the Crown's case.

Hmmm...

Clifford's court strategy (apparently there is a transcript of him saying these things) is worth quoting in full:

  • “I don’t consent to be associated to a legal person for these proceedings; I will not appear as a legal person; I don’t consent to appearance in a statutory jurisdiction either”
  • “Well, this is, this is a kangaroo court and it’s not a court of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II…you don’t have any duties that I even really care about in the first place”
  • “I don’t consent to represent the legal fiction these people have brought into court”
  • “Never in my life have I [have] consented to be recognized as a legal fiction under their terms and conditions and I certainly do not, do not consent and refuse to appear in the jurisdiction that they’ve created which is full of unicorns and rainbows”
  • “NO, I will not be playing this game at all”
  • “As one of the sovereign people of this land I convene a lawful court of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II; I have all sorts of claims against this man and I think that we should proceed in a game of my choosing; We can settle up these false claims in a real hurry

Brilliant.

...so, wait, who is it who is Sovereign here? Does he even know what that word means?

I wonder who the co-defendant is?

"They are also trying to associate another individual with Dean’s case which has a legal aid lawyer just to obscure and confuse the case even further."

Well, that settles it - Dean, pack your toothbrush, some toothpaste and lots of clean underwear. CSC will be processing you shortly after your trial.

Hmmmmm

I wonder what would have happen to Dean if he had tried this is in say Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, Mao's China, present day Saudi Arabia, etc?

Death, gulag, re-education camp or mental hospital I think............and what are you evil Canadians doing to him, feeding him and giving him a place to sleep.....you monsters!

A re-education camp kinda sounds appropriate.

I recommend JB as the camp commandant and Aryader as head of re-instruction with D'rok and (lady with the long name who knows so much) as instructors

The spoiled child, Dean Clifford, has purposely found a place to misbehave where he knows he'll get non-violent treatment and due process.

But even there, it seems his day of reckoning is at hand.

The re-instruction of little Cliffy? Now that would be a thankless job!

Same here with our recent spate of gun rights protestors, parading around schoolyards with loaded rifles, knowing the police will use the utmost professionalism dealing with them but videotaping the encounter just in case they can provoke "something."

We should not be one bit fooled by Dean's self-serving inference that the two 40 year-old shot guns and the WWII .303 Enfield rifle he seemingly left unsecured in his closet are harmless antiques.

The ins and outs of Canadian firearm laws aside, 40 year old shotguns and WWII rifles are not really that old. And there is no excuse for Dean's leaving his firearms outside a gun safe or without gun locks.

That's how tragedies happen!

There doesn't seem to be any limit to this child's irresponsibility.

Interesting to argue weapons manufactured in 1973 are no longer weapons. I suspect it's because he can't afford new shotguns?

If money was an issue (and it alsways seems to be with the FMOTL-types), then he could have solved any "unsafe storage" issues for $24.99+ sales tax at Canadian Tire with a three-pack of trigger locks.
