I haven't been asked to explain it, which should tell you something. Your imagination is getting away from you. "Faithless" is not a pejorative term. In fact, it is used by some atheists and appears in the literature.
Just like Dogma and superstition.
Your mormonism is both Dogmatic and superstitious.

Why do you make such a stink when someone calls it that?

He's experiencing a crisis of faith, and having his beliefs accurately referred to with those terms probably strikes a bit close to home. It's a knife in the chest, a harsh reminder of the questions causing him to struggle.

About the Book Of Abraham...
Yes indeed. :)
I love the book of Abraham. It is enlightening. This is one of my favourites:

In the Pearl of Great Price. The Book of Abraham, Chapter 3 verses 22 to 27 we read:

22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the Noble and Great ones;

23 And God saw these souls that they were good, and He stood in the midst of them, and He said: These I will make my rulers; for He stood among those that were Spirits, and he saw that they were good; and He said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.

24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and He said unto those who were with Him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;

25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

26 And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.

27 And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.

*snippety, since this thread has too much silliness already*

Yeah, that's great.

Say, did you know the entire Book of Abraham is a laughable fraud? True story.

Yes indeed. :)
  1. For behold and therefore and what not, god told Abraham to write in reformed Egyptian (whatever that is).
  2. For behold, whatsoever embarrasses the Egyptians the Egyptians shall include with their sacred texts, for it is written, why not?
  3. And god saw the Egyptians that they included curious and derogatory works contained in writings that were embarrassing to them in their sacred writings and these works that portrayed the Egyptians in a negative light became sacred to the Egyptians.
  4. And god said, whosoever shall believeth in whichever and whatnot shall become exalted and shall henceforth compete in beauty contests least their words be lost to time and all eternity.
  5. And a great man shall come forth out from amongst the children of men. And he shall have a great work and a wonder.
  6. For behold, here me now and believe me forever, this man shall sorely test the people to prove them herewith and always and forever that their faith is sufficient to purchase land in Florida, sight unseen.
  7. And verily, those who prove their faith shall be offered a bridge in Brooklyn at a reduced price.
  8. For behold, operators are standing by.
  9. Thus spaketh the lord and those who have ears to hear let them hear. And those who have money please call now.

There is no excuse for rudeness.

Can't stand the heat?

Seriously, you are transparently tap dancing around the issue of the blatant fraud of the Book Of Abraham. There is rock solid evidence that Joseph Smith made the whole thing up out of his imagination, right down to his pronunciations of made up "Egyptian" words. Can you offer any rational argument as to why someone should not dismiss Joseph Smith as a confidence man?

I would very much like to see this addressed, too, skyrider44.

I smell ulterior motive.

It is a little odd.
Back when I was a theist, I was quite eager to show people the proper (:rolleyes:) way to think about these things.

I might have come off a bit more like our other resident theist in this thread, but with slightly less of the chatbot "keyword-scan-and-redirect-to-quote" MO.

What if she IS a chat bot and this is a field test for a spammer or tech support company developing her?

I've noticed Skyrider's posts seem to be increasing in contempt for Atheists.
If this were true it would be no surprise considering the ignorant, offensive, abusive attacks on LDS members, teachings, and beliefs in this very thread.

You may be right, but it seemed that the rude ones just didn't bother him. I was trying my best to be civil. If I was rude, I apologize but there are limits.

You should remember that he came here to debate us, and JREF members were challenging his claims and beliefs. This is what we do here. We are not interested in being preached to, Janadele.

Why does the 'translation' of the Egyptian Papyrus my Joseph Smith differ so much from Egyptologists?

Is it ignorant to point out that the book of Abraham is a fraud? Or is it ignorant to ignore the fact that it is a fraud?

Is it offensive to point to easily verified facts, or to insult others for not having some secret magic knowledge?

Is it abusive to point out inconsistencies and logical failings, or to claim that all black people are cursed?
