Is Amway A Scam?

Yes, it's been incredibly clever, the way they've managed to hide this from governments and authorities all around the world.

All those experts that have studied the way it operates, sometimes for years, and they just can't see what you see ....

Do you subscribe to the corruption theory? That they're bribing everyone?

It is partially due to corruption. The people who run Amway are generous political donors, which helps keep the government off their back. But it exists and operates largely by exploiting numerous loopholes. These shouldn't be startling revelations to anyone.

Yes, it's incredible the way they've been able to bribe governments of all different political hues around the world. Left wing, right wing, democratic, communist. Not only the governments, but independent judiciaries as well, and virtually all marketing and business academics!

And Amway promotes themselves as an environmentally friendly company as well. I suspect their behind the so-called "global warming" hoax too, but for some reason they haven't done as good a job at bribing people there.

Their power to influence the world and twist things to their own means is just scary, and all in secret!

I think they must be part of the Illuminati.

Yeah how dare I call Amway a scam, as if it does so much good for the world. That over 99% failure rate of Amway distributors is due to the laziness and incompetence of the distributors, not because Amway is inherently flawed. No, I take that back. It isn't "flawed", it is structured the way scams are supposed to be structured, so that the people at the top make money while those at the bottom lose.

And as for Amway operations around the world: The company regularly gets in trouble in various countries around the world, though hasn't been banned outright(except maybe 1 or 2 countries, though its hard to tell exactly what happened). They nearly got banned in the UK a few years ago.

I don't think they were banned, but things are difficult for Amway in the UK these days.

I believe you are right. The 1979 FTC ruling that cleared Amway allowed copycat MLM's to structure themselves like Amway and hide the pyramid by having a product. The product's viability can be debated but under the ruling, was legal.
.

It may be no coincidence that Herbalife was founded in 1980. The FTC ruling gave the green light to everyone who wanted to start their own sophisticated pyramid scheme, so the founder of Herbalife seized the opportunity.

Many other MLMs have come and gone, but Herbalife, with its billions in revenues, is almost as successful as Amway. So in a way, Amway has helped some people, besides those at the top of the putrid Amway pyramid, become rich - clever enough scam-artists who start their own pyramid scheme and closely model it on Amway stand a good chance of making it big!

Do you have a reliable source with evidence to support that claim?

it is structured the way scams are supposed to be structured, so that the people at the top make money while those at the bottom lose.

Legitimate multilevel marketing, including Amway, is not structured like that. You apparently have some misunderstandings of the model.

No it doesn't. The handful of times it has "got in to trouble" because of lobbying by anti-mlm zealots (eg UK, India) or competitors (eg South Korea, US) there have been investigations and the company has ultimately been cleared every time.

though hasn't been banned outright(except maybe 1 or 2 countries, though its hard to tell exactly what happened).

No country has ever banned Amway, apart from a brief period in China when every single direct sales company was banned while a licencing system was introduced. Amway was one of the first to receive a licence.

They nearly got banned in the UK a few years ago.

Anti-mlm zealots successfully get an investigation, and court case, launched. They lose. They appeal. They lose again.

How is that "nearly got banned"?

You really shouldn't rely on people like Robert FitzPatrick for your information.

I don't think they were banned, but things are difficult for Amway in the UK these days.

Amway UK is doing just fine.

Wouldn't it be interesting if someone really put their money where there mouth was with these kind of claims. You know, like betting a billion dollars in shorts that Herbalife was a pyramid scheme.

That would sure get people studying it properly wouldn't it? Lots of smart rich business people would put there best people on it to see what the truth was.

Oh, yeah, that happened. Ackman made that bet. And Icahn, Loeb, Soros and others bet he was wrong. And Ackman is losing big time.

Zelenius, have you ever considered the possibility you might be wrong? Wouldn't the world make a lot more sense if your current view was actually incorrect?

If you are talking about a "legal ruling" then nobody will take that bet.

However, if the smart money is on recruiting others to do what you are doing then there is definitely a pointy end.

Is Amway a scam?

Yes, of course it is. Everyone knows it.

Next?

I don't know anything about them, and I haven't read the full thread. All I can do is to pass on a single word that I heard as though it were all you needed to know:

Scamway!

Yes, this.

Icerat, you're wasting your breath. No one buys that crap anymore.

Yeah, you're right. Nobody buys that crap anymore.

Seriously, I just gotta laugh.

Oh, and if you have a phone using Qi Wireless Charging? You bought Amway technology.

Nobody sure buys a lot.

Is this one of those arguments like they make for Islam as the "fastest growing religion?"

I don't think that showing something is a successful scam would make it any less scammy. The whole dispute revolves around what each of us thinks is underhanded - it's about morality, not legality, or profitability, or numbers of adherents.

I think the Catholic Church is a scam, but I'm sure they make a lot of money and have been around, operating legally, for umpteen hundred years. It's still a scam. And you know what? Even if your church priest is a nice guy and hasn't molested anyone, he belongs to a tainted organization. That's exactly how I feel about Amway.

If somebody says nobody believes in Islam any more, then data showing plenty of people do, and in fact it is growing, would be clear evidence against the claim, would it not?

Great, so lets get to a proper discussion instead of the silly insults and platitudes.

What concerns you, morally, about Amway? In my experience most of the time when people say something like that, they have a complete misunderstanding of the business model - or, alternatively, what they claim upsets them about Amway is actually true of pretty much any business.
