Pro-Abortion Protestors Chant Hail Satan. (maybe)

A friend told me that during a "pro-life" rally at a local Planned Parenthood clinic, some pro-choice counter-protesters dressed all gothic, and carried signs with sayings like, "End abortion, the Anti-Christ must be born".
No idea if it was a true story, but it sounds like a good idea.

BS, satanists eat babies. Why the hell would the be pro-abortion?

"Pro-abortion..."? Look, OP, people who support the legality of abortion are pro-women's-health, pro-choice, pro-her-body-her-right. Calling us "pro-abortion" is a gross mischaracterization of women's constitutional right, upheld by the Supreme Court, to have a procedure to terminate a fertilized egg.

Your choice of language is despicable.
The language caught my eye too. The highlight is my thought.

Nobody is "pro-abortion". The term is spin used by the nutbars on the right who want to control women's bodies. This choice of language is quite revealing.

I don't have any problem with the expression "pro-abortion" (and I am).

It clearly (to me) means pro-allowing-abortion and has the virtue of not being mealy mouthed.

I retract the "despicable" epithet. I stand by my other assertions on the subject. You're entitled to use the term for yourself, but conservatives use "pro-abortion" to mean the same as "pro-baby-killing".

Right, as opposed to this objective and totally no-spin-whatsoever assessment.

Aw, c'mon Mike. Numerous states with hard right Republican legislatures have enacted severe restrictions on abortions. They mandate unnecessary medical procedures. They effectively eliminate abortion providers. They defund Planned Parenthood. They mandate visits to false abortion counseling centers. They actually mandate exactly what the doctor must say to an abortion seeker. Some of the mandated messages contain lies. One state went so far as to require that the woman look at a picture. They seek to define "life" as beginning at fertilization, which outlaws some forms of birth control, which, btw, has also been introduced at the federal level. They restrict public comment and even in a few cases have limited pro-choice representatives from speaking. One House (Michigan) tried to tell a Representative that she couldn't use the word "vagina". They require absence-only education which is a proven loser.

I'll stand by my statement. Do you believe the "nutbars on the right" (my words, new emphasis) don't want to control women's bodies? <-- Not a rhetorical question.

It seems, at least to me, that the one woman shouting "hail satan" was clearly doing so in a mocking tone, as to get under the skin of the anti-choicers. Of course, as predicted, numerous far right blogs are trying to twist this into a "ZOMG pro-choicers are satanists!!" talking point.

Ahh it's times like these I miss working at the Texas Capitol.

This isn't true. It's true that no pro-choicer is pro-abortion. However, all pro-lifers are functionally pro-abortion, and above a certain minimal level of intelligence, they know it. The evidence is absolutely overwhelming that restricting and banning abortion drives the rates up. We know this not only from every cross-cultural study but from before-and-after studies such as recently in Arizona.

This makes perfect sense, of course. Without lots of abortions, there's not much reason to get in a gang and sing Amazing Grace or much opportunity to advertise your precious moral superiority.

It's also not true that pro-lifers want to control women's bodies. The evidence is also overwhelming that as many or more women are pro-life as men. A 2003 CBS poll showed that 25% of women thought that abortion should never be available, as compared to 20% of men.

Pro-choicers also want to do the opposite of what they say. We know this because of all the Facebook memes and snarky comments about how if you don't have a uterus, you can't have an opinion. Not every pro-choicer can possibly be so stupid as not to realize that they have been systematically alienating half of their supporters.

In both cases, it's because what they are really doing is advertising their moral superiority.

In the case of pro-lifers, it's an idiot myth that God somehow wills a conception into life, injects a soul into it, and is responsible for it until it is born. After that, it's on its own. This is because they have an idea of a moral hierarchy with God at the top. The world after birth is supposed to teach morality by causing suffering and even death.

(Confirming evidence: their opposition to food stamps and WIC.)

In the case of pro-choicers, it's an idiot myth that male and female are basic social classes and everything including the color of orange juice is a result of the oppression of innocent women by evil men.

(Confirming evidence: the ritual male self-abasement that every male speaker at a pro-choice rally is expected to display.)

In both cases, it's much more fun to think that you are a member of an oppressed group (Goddists, women) fighting against the demonic evils of another group (secularists, men) than it is to pay the slightest intention to actual reality. The details are hardly important.

LOL.

The term is abortion. If you support abortion, you are pro-abortion.

Besides, those who are pro-life are the real pro-choice advocates - the baby's choice of to live or to die.

If the person is one-dimensional, that a fine way to define them. Don't know anybody like that myself.

Same old crap, a fetus is important and the mother isn't. Now that's one-dimensional. BTW, one choice isn't a "choice". The fetus doesn't make the choice anyway. God does, right? That's why there are so many more spontaneous abortions than there are medical ones?

I guess there's a reason Wal-mart still sells wire hangers.

Hu. No. Firstly before the 16 to 20 weeks of "normal" abortion is not a baby, it is at best a fetus, at worst a clump of cell with barely recognizable humanoid forms (<8 week for example). Secondely being pro choice does not mean you are pro abortion. If my girl friend was expecting, I would be pro-keeping-it but in the end the choice would be up to her. And I would support her doing the choice despite not wanting an abortion.

The whole debate is about whether the woman can CHOOSE whether she is continuying an unwanted pregnancy or not. Pro lifer are not pro choice whatsoever they jsut want the expectant woman to be forced to keep the baby no matter what and REMOVE the choice from other people , choice which should not concern them (and saying it is up to the "baby" choice to live or die is downright STUPID. A baby do not chose to live or die, it just happens to it, whether the parent wish it or not. Do you think my sister fetus chose to die ? You are an idiot if you think so).

I would like there to be no abortions. Abortions can inflict emotional harm on the mother and abortions carry a number of health risks (though relatively safe). I'm in favor of allowing abortions.

You are free to call me pro-abortion. If you think it gives you some kind of rhetorical advantage go ahead but it's an equivocation.

Can we ban stillborn children too?

I don't hear the "mob" saying any such thing. The one lady at the end clearly seems to say it, mockingly, might I add. I hear too many syllables from the chant trying to drown out amazing grace for it to be "Hail Satan."

This was some crap drudged up by the religious right. "They must be devil worshippers."

As I listened to it the first time, I did not hear the crowd singing that, until I heard the lady at the end, and then after re-listening, I could hear it. It reminded me of the EVP's on the ghost hunting shows: examples of pareidolia of some vague noise, that we can't really attribute to anything until someone points out a pattern. And then, it's hard not to hear it, even if the pattern (in the crowd in this case) was never there.

But assuming it was...

Who's to say they aren't agents provocateurs?

I'd be more likely to go with: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

But overall, all movements seem to realize how useful it is to cherry pick isolated comments from non-representative attendees to a protest and use that as an asset in their strategy to demonize the other side. This time, that demonization was practically self-ascribing.
