Here is what really happend:
That was a good read, Craig B.
Still, Doctor Dave does have a whole slew of fascinating articles.
While the Green River Shales one WAS good, I think you'll agree the one about how Noah gathered the animals gives it a run for the money.

Then there's the one about the Columbia River Basalts
"Occurring in layers stratigraphically below the Columbia River Basalts are thick layers of water-deposited, fossil-bearing, sedimentary rock, obviously deposited by the Flood itself. "

My thoughts exactly. Then there's Gerta Keller's stuff on the age of various flood basalts, which shows pretty clearly that fossilierous material can interfinger with such igneous deposits. Hard to have the fossiliferous stuff deposited after the flood, when it's below, on top, and in the middle of the igneous rocks!Correa Neto said:Has anyone told him that the Neptunist X Plutonist ended in the XVIII century?
I read it as "cloud of irk" which made me laugh. When startled squids disappear in a cloud of ink much like some posters do.
From the first link:
The Flood story, however, is not merely natural, it involves the supernatural. The Creator was moving to preserve His creation. Might it not be appropriate to propose that, as the Flood was nearing, He instilled in a chosen pair of each "kind" a sense of impending doom and a desire to migrate to Noah and his Ark for preservation? All other representatives of their kind perished in the Flood, and all living representatives descended from the chosen pairs, inheriting the premonition and migration instincts.
That's punching that "E" in JREF right in the eye.
Must be some pretty wild chemistry out there! Probably all the spicy food....Dinwar, you know those collumns in basalts are actually basalt crystals precipitaded from water, don't you?
Its the latest Neptunistic buzz...

"The Creator was moving to preserve His creation"?! The Creator needs a good dictionary--I'm pretty sure "preserve" and "annihilate" are not synonyms.
Not so crazy if placed in the correct context - when Neptunists ruled the Earth. Science was not what it is nowadays and some things we now know are impossible were not considered as being so. Remember, collumnar joints are prisms with six faces, just like beryl and quartz crystals. And back then, petrographic microscopes were not exactly a common tool... So, knowing an aphanitic basalt is composed by countless tiny microscopic crystals would most likely be a no-go. But nowadays, its just plain crazy and yet its embedded within the basalt being precipitated from the flood waters as proposed at Pakeha's linkie thingie.Must be some pretty wild chemistry out there! Probably all the spicy food....
To be fair, somewhere in south-central Colorado is a bit of basalt that has ripple marks. Really weird. It's hard to get basalt to flow over such delicate structures without destroying them.

...It really hard not to conclude YEC are dishonest when debating their beliefs.
... For another, and amusing, take on these shales, see http://atheists.org/content/rock-ages-and-age-rocks which has a paragraph or two on the problems these formations present for creationists.
I suspect that that's not too far from the truth.
Noah lived in flat marshy land that was prone to flooding. He built a raft capable of protecting his family and some breeding stock from the worst of it ....
Next thing you know Robin Hood is splitting the arrow and swinging across The Great Hall on a rope to save Maid Marian from the evil clutches of the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Lets not forget that god created rainbows after this flood as a promise to never kill by global flood again. This implies that somehow light refraction didn't exist prior to the great flood.
I have got to reread Genesis; it sounds much more exciting than I remember.
I believe you may be headed for Disappointment City, but you've got me thinking about the great service we here could do for future generations by collaborating on a JREF Revised Version of the Bible.
That would be very interesting to read, certainly more enlightening. I also approve.![]()
