Randfan, I totally agree. When I took the missionary discussions I was taught it was blacks. All the newspaper articles surrounding the time of President Kimball's announcement talk about the "blacks" getting the priesthood. Here are a few examples (again from genealogybank, a subscription site):

The articles are numerous, and all of them even quotes from "black members" referred to it as a ban against "blacks."

One more quote I just found.

Remember the old Crayola crayon?
Thanks Cat. I should note that many if not most Mormons are like you. Faithful and honest.

You don't know what the Church has in its vaults that were used/owned by Joseph Smith. Here again, you engage in reckless speculation disguised as a statement of fact. Please name the source of your claim that the Church doesn't have some of Joseph Smith's personal effects in its vaults. Go ahead, name your source. Otherwise, amend
your statement to read "It is my opinion that. . . ."

Don't suppose you have any proof of which church and what items they have.

That's absurd, A.) We are told that the plates and urim and thummim were taken to heaven by an angel. B.) I don't know for a fact that the Church doesn't have some effects in their vault to prove the church true but that doesn't change the FACT that the Mormon Church, if it had them, does not show them so you STILL have to take it on faith just as you would the guy on the corner.

skyrider, while I have your attention, you will admit that blacks were not allowed the priesthood until 1979, right?

Akhenaten. The organisation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is based on revelation and guidance from Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.

I still don't understand why Christ needs prophets, can't he talk to everyone?

Ok, where would one find information on what resides in the "vaults"?

Foster Zygote,The point of this particular discussion to which my reply regarding of Negro descent refers, is how those excluded from holding the Priesthood were identified as being of Negro descent. Beside the obvious fact that they themselves would probably know, if they did not, then the Lord's representatives would.
How? If it's true that the rule is not even a trace of "negroid" blood, how does one know? I surely don't know for sure what my great great great grandmother might have done in secret. Were the judgments made on individual revleation for each candidate, and if not, what was the rule used? This is not that hard to figure out if you know it at all, and if you don't know it, why not just say "I don't know," instead of making attackable assumptions?

There are no extant relics related to the deciphering of the golden tablets by Joseph Smith, including the golden tablets

Not me. I have hard of hearing.

I say that jokingly, but indeed, that's actually part of the explanation. He can shout all he wants, but if your spirit is not "tuned" (ie, you are not worthy) then you can't hear him. So then he has to speak to prophets to convey his words. And even then, it is the holy ghost, not Christ speaking directly in most instances.

Unfortunately for me, I got one of those defective tuners. All I get is black sabbath 24/7.

No "relics" at all? Why did God take em back?

Lorenzo Snow, one of the prophets, claimed to have a mahogany seer stone from Joseph Smith.

Mormonthink.com said:
This seer stone is now kept in the First Presidency's private vault (SOURCES: Roberts 1930, 6:231n; J. F. Smith 1954a, 3:225; McConkie 1966, 818; Joseph Anderson 1971).
The site describes others as well supposedly kept there.
