John Edward - psychic or what?

No, they aren't. The brain controls the way that the muscles contract. It limits the strength of voluntary muscle contraction (thought to be protection against damage). The number of muscle fibres simultaneously stimulated by the nerves dictates the overall strength of the contraction. Some people are stronger than average simply because they can activate more muscle fibres at a time. In emergencies, surges of adrenalin and stress hormones can cause this restriction to be overcome and temporarily allow a much larger number of muscle fibres to contribute, resulting in abnormal feats of strength (at the risk of joint damage and even broken bones).

So, no great mystery there.

That's not paranormal enough. Give me goose bumps!

Pakeha, yes I got that. Let me expand ... I believe that Christians who became atheists because of reading the Bible (as some here have said) and even most non believers on this thread are indeed being tricked purposely by hypocritical liars (deceiving spirits).
So the Bible is a deceiving spirit? I'd agree with the "deceiving" part.

How can you be tricked into being an atheist? It's more like coming to your senses.

Ha ha! You've been tricked into applying the same standards of evidence to religion as have been applied to all of mankind's successes! You fool!

So, in addition to still being here, after several "final" exists, you want to pretend that an opinion I hold, that no "gods" exist, is the result of my being deceived by "spirits"?

How am I being deceived by something that does not exist?

In essence those who have been tricked are then teaching others and spreading untruths like the hypocritical liars who tricked them in the first place. The critical difference is in their motives. Perhaps Randi is an example of that. Perhaps not. Anyway, I think the good people that have been deceived and then attempt to spread those untruths simply think they are helping others ...I do not believe most of them are "hypocritical liars". They are spreading what they honestly believe to be true which is a result of them being tricked in the first place. I know I know, you could say that right back to me...I'm just trying to clarify why I originally only chose to quote the first sentence because I thought that first sentence applied to most people here as opposed to the second. I will stop here because I am even beginning to confuse myself :)

Damn that horrid thing called reality!!! It tricked me into not believing in a sky daddy.

Okay Robin to start with I may have already stated as a teenager in the 70's I did attend a Silva Mind Control seminar. I didn't take it too seriously, only went because my parents made me, and rarely if ever practice any of the meditation techniques taught- though in one instance I will describe I did employ a rudimentary version of it.
Over the years my position has evolved to believing most paranormal is bogus, but we may have telepathy between humans as a simple tool- and it's vague and evasive-unless you can recognize it.

Okay, first example. About 10 years ago, there was a woman I was hanging around with, we were platonic friends but we were getting a little closer than that, but she had a boyfriend. We both felt we had a "connection" with each other.
One night she was leaving to go home, I felt that was an opportunity to get intimate that night. We had not previously discussed whether I wanted her to stay or go, she simply said okay till next time, I said goodbye and she walked out the door.
I didn't want her to go, and figured I'd play a little trick on her. I did a quick relaxation technique, to go into what Silva called "alpha" with a 10-1 count, slowed my breathing and heart rate considerably, and willed myself to project the thought:

"Jody. Come back..." I thought this three times and opened my eyes.

About 10 seconds later the door burst open and she looked at me with wide eyes and said, "WHAT?"

I said "did you hear me calling you?"

She said "Yes".

I said "But I didn't speak. and where were you? "

She said she had walked down the hall and out to the sidewalk, a good 150 feet by the time she "heard" me.

The incident ended with her saying "You **********!" with a smile. And no I didn't get laid.

That is the Gospel truth. Not a word came from my mouth.

Next example in a moment.

Second example:

Around the same time, I had a neighbor who lived immediately adjacent to me. His wall faces mine, each with a bedroom and bathroom windows. The houses are only 7 feet apart, no fences between.
He was kind of a lowlife but used to come over with a friend of his and share a sixpack and maybe a joint. We might play video games. I wouldn't call them thieves but one had been caught with stolen property once.
One day they were over, nothing unusual, my neighbor "Bob" did use the bathroom, but he usually did as you only rent beer.
I indicated I had an errand to run and they were leaving anyway.
As I backed my car out of my driveway, they were leaning against Bob's car, looking at me. They both had this suspicious, "**** eating" grin. As I pulled away I looked them in the eye, and the words "bathroom window" jumped into my head. I kept driving, but the thought kept looping. I got about 3 blocks away, turned around, and went back. As I pulled up they looked surprised, in a distressed way.
I went into my bathroom and sure enough, the latch that was ALWAYS latched if the window was closed, had been turned open. I mean ALWAYS. If the window is shut, the latch is closed.
I spent 5 minutes cutting a wood block and screwing it into the casement frame and made plenty of noise doing it so they would know.
As I got back in my car and pulled away again, I smiled at them. They were both white as a sheet.

About a year later I caught one of them trying to get in my house through my kitchen door window FWIW.

Okay this second example may mean I'm just amazingly intuitive. The first though.... I don't know.

Don't bother. Anecdotes, no matter how cool, are not evidence.

Okay thanks for your input, and for the record, I'm not seeking to prove anything to anyone here- I was asked to share this- though if there can be a rational explanation to any of this I would solicit that.

Nothing telepathic about that campfire story. And you may have made it up, how are we to know? It adds nothing to the thread.

If you'd care to scroll back through the thread less than just a page you will see I expressed this same concern when I was asked to share it.

Again, thanks for your input, and have yourself a nice day.

Thanks, and drop in again sometime.

Oh please stop. That's embarrassing to read, and is evidence of nothing.

See:

I'm not seeking to prove anything to anyone here

You don't miss a thing, do you?

This is where some of you really do show what you're about.

What in the world makes you think people should bend over backwards to convince you of something? The above events did happen to me, I don't care if you believe them or not. If you don't want to keep an open mind that things could be real then don't. I don't want you to know about them. I don't want you to use any of this to your benefit if they are real.
This is not like religion where I think I get bonus points for saving your soul- I would love nothing better than for you to walk around thinking there is no possible way anyone could ever receive a stray thought from your head, or project one of theirs into yours.

Oh yeah it can't happen. You're right! You know everything there is to know.

I was asked to share these things by another user. If you find them unbelievable then just look away.

An explanation of the mechanics of telepathy would perhaps be in order. Despite years of brain research no telepathy transmitters/receivers have ever been found.

No. I don't think I will just look away. I think I will ask for evidence whenever the circumstances arise, if that's OK with you.

And even if it's not OK with you.

If you can do that then there are a million dollars waiting for you. Don't tell me, the money doesn't interest you.
