Romney in May:
the Palestinians have no interest whatsoever in establishing peace
the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish,
Palestinians
are committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel.

Romney today:
I will recommit America to the goal of a democratic, prosperous Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with the Jewish state of Israel.

Also, apparently it was the military and intelligence that killed Osama bin Laden, not Barack Obama, but he directly caused everything bad in the world.

Are there skeptics on this forum who actually believe that there are a significant number of Palestinians who want peace?

I would assume most people in any significantly large group prefer neither to kill nor die, yes.

I've long derided the Palestinian's penchant for violence and lack of Democracy. But I honestly believe that they are as likely to want peace as the Israelis. They just have the wrong solution to attain that peace (so do the Israelis).

What do you think is Romney's plan for establishing "a democratic, prosperous Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with the Jewish state of Israel"?

Mind control, maybe?

This + 1

Looks as if Romney is getting ready for his next debate

Going back to the thread title, "Romney Now Flip-Flopping on Foreign Policy"... the first thing I thought was, "well, there is another debate coming up and it is focused on foreign policy" so I agree with Mattus above.

About the same as Obama's. Talk about it and accomplish nothing.

I'm guessing that most people on both sides want what they would consider to be a just peace. It's just that the Palestinian idea of a just peace differs from the Israeli idea of a just peace.

Do you believe that, or do you have any actual evidence?

(waits for someone to blather about "are you saying not a single Palestinian wants to peacefully coexist wioth Israel")

You honestly believe in myths and legends then.

Yes, I do.

It's just a question of how to attain that peace.

This is, of course, true. The fact that two sides are at war does not mean they don't want the war to end. They just don't want "peace" to mean they end up worse off than they are now. The problem with the kind of thinking that says the Palestinians don't want peace is that it assumes that they aren't rational people with actual objectives and instead are merely suicidal and crazy. They aren't. They have what they consider to be real grievances and they want them addressed. Plus they are seeking revenge. The fact that both sides can point to insanity on the other side doesn't change this. Both sides have done horrible things. Both sides deserve blame. Both sides would be happier to have it resolved as long as they see themselves as having won.

The biggest current roadblock is Netanyahu and his sycophants in the GOP who only want to protect Israel in order for all the Jews to be killed so Jesus can return.

Here are some examples of Palestinians and Israeli's trying to work to common goal of peace

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab-Israeli_peace_projects
And I could show you a group of architects and engineers who think 9/11 was an inside jobby-job, but that doesn't mean they represent a majority.

And then there's actual polls:
When asked more fundamental ideological questions surrounding Israel’s existence, 72 percent said it was “right” to deny Jews have a long history in Jerusalem, 61 percent endorsed naming streets after suicide bombers and 53 percent said it was “right” to teach songs in Palestinian schools that talk about hating Jews.

Asked to comment on specific clauses of the Hamas Charter, more than 70 percent of Palestinians agreed with the section that says, “The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews, when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews.”

And 84% believe that “Over time Palestinians must work to get back all the land for a Palestinian state.”.
