Romney Now Flip-Flopping on Foreign Policy

Damn straight they did. They ended a war and blood shed. In the end that's everything.

Let's give everyone a medal!! They had goals... they fought for them... caused a long conflict... they failed.... they lost.

But I will concede you are right, on your point. I can envision how the conflict will end peacefully. You are right..... well, still, only one side will end up getting what they want.

The found a way to live in peace. What on earth is wrong with that? This notion of a dichotomy of winning and losing is a very, very big part of the problem. Your citizens dying ISN'T winning. Children growing up without fathers or watching children dying ISN'T winning. It never has been.

No, they have a very good chance of working out a solution if they stop thinking in terms of only getting their way.

Now I can see why people think the Palestinians want peace. They think people voted in the Nazis for smiles and rainbows.

Straw man. No one I know of thinks it's so simple. But this is a skeptics forum and we do expect a level of debate greater than high school students. Typically we expect demonstrating ones claim and not relying on fallacy.

Do you have any of that?

When did I say there was anything wrong with that? One side realized they were not going to get what they wanted.... so they gave up... to live in peace.

Yes... and I have a very good chance of flying........if I grow wings.

I'm guessing that most people on both sides want what they would consider to be a just peace. It's just that the Palestinian idea of a just peace differs from the Israeli idea of a just peace.

And there's no way to talk about what the Palestinians want without Godwinning the thread.

No. I don't accept that. It's not as if they were fighting off mongol hordes. You are taking a complex issue and trying to simplify it all the while ignoring that people forever dying for some silly religious sociopolitical goal is absurd.

A rhetorical waste of time. Living in peace with your fellow human beings ISN'T a bad thing. It's actually a very good thing. Just because you don't say it's a bad thing doesn't change the fact that you continually minimize the importance of it. If we were talking about invading armies and not finding a way to live without people dying you would have a point. We aren't and you don't.

And 84% believe that “Over time Palestinians must work to get back all the land for a Palestinian state.”.
As Virus said in #31 (OMG! I'm citing Virus. Shoot me. :)) they've been subject to extremely slanted news for a long time. I'm not surprised at the result. Consider the USA where at one time 53% of Republicans thought Obama was not born in the USA. And we live in a nation where there are numerous different news sources. So given the pervasive propaganda they've been subject to, the decades-long violence, and the horrible conditions in Gaza I'm not the least bit surprised at the 84%. Thus, I don't find this to be persuasive evidence that Palestinians don't want to live in peace.

Romney said at VMI that he expects all nations that get USA foreign aid will be expected to live up to their international commitments. But he has also said that he will re-institute torture, which violates international treaties that the USA has signed. Nothing but tough talk for the neocon hawks.

49 posts after the OP, none of them discussing the unending reigh of Romney's utter flippery. Or floppery - whichever. I get that there isn't much new to say on the subject, but discussing the issues directly is just not the way its done around here.

I'm not minimizing the importance of peace..... I just don't think it's going to happen.... and If it does... it is because Jews continually lose power in the region... and either leave.... or just blend in with the rest of the population. I hope I'm wrong....but I'm just being a realist.

I'm sorry but I categorically reject your presumption that you are a realist. History has shown that hostility ebbs and flows and has never been constant over the long term. That's what is real. The question becomes one of when and not if. And it most certainly does not necessitate that one side must absolutely and unconditionally lose.

Moralistic fallacy.

or

"Palestinians want peace because they should want peace."

I thought you were talking Irish politics. Catholics wanted one Irish country... they didn't get it.

Catholics wanted? I think you know very little about Irish history if this is your summary of the events. It is best you don't opine on the issue for your sake. As they say, better say nothing and have everyone think you're a fool rather than post incontinently and ignorantly and remove all doubt.

BS

or

Straw man.

Wanting peace is a natural state for humans. No one wants to see their children die. They will accept the reality that their children will need to be put in harms way given certain dynamics (like those in the Mideast). The only people who pine for war are leaders and those who make money from war. They beat the war drums. And you are entirely without evidence. In any event, for those who care see this video.

Do me a favor, stop with the straw men and focus on what I say and not what you dream up in your fevered head.
