Perhaps Clayton didn't understand "valid and verifiable" evidence. An awful lot of news articles are hardly a substitute for a single study or peer review article. Where is the remotest hint of a incident rate to be concerned about? Some people react baddly to a treatment of some description? Shocker! Just the same as any medicine ever.

Same old same old of the "I don't understand it, I can't be bothered to find out, it must be bad" kind of argument.

I'm pretty sure you've got the logic backward. "It must be bad, so I can't find out more and am unable to really understand it."

This looks like a classic example of conspiracy theorists pissing in the pool of public discourse. From what I can see of ALEC, it's a rather concerning organisation, in that it gives large corporations excessive influence on a lawmaking process that's supposed to reflect the democratic will of the population. But as soon as conspiracy theorists get a hold of it, they start tacking absurd antivax nonsense on to it, and end up making it look like anyone who expresses any legitimate concern is a nutjob. If anybody were paying attention to them, it might be quite a serious problem.
