There's that hive-mind tendency I was referring to in my comments earlier about Government Truthers and their love of polls. For Government Truthers, what matters isn't what is, what matters is what everyone else thinks is.

Who cares what 99% of any group of people thinks? Is that really how you determine reality? Does this explain why Government Truthers are such religious zealots when it comes to their worship of the State?

That seems to be the problem in a nutshell (although one can imagine something even darker than LIHOP). Unfortunately, the people who spend the most time talking about these issues generally don't seem to perceive this problem as real, so the discussions get stuck.
