If you actually read and comprehended the article, it says that this was Hoess' house, and certainly doesn't say that the pool facilities were shared with the camp.

What is so surprising that a person might feel shame for what a parent or grandparent may have done? Human nature is to figure that the apple didn't fall far from the tree and that someone's decendants may be similar people or share similar ideas and if they don't it makes it that much harder to be accepted as a decent human being.

I mean, how often are your hypothetical children going to be embarassed at your behaviour - the ranting, the opinions on many issues that run completely contrary to all evidence, your lack of empathy for anyone not American, I mean their fiancees will only have so much leave from the IDF that they won't get to know the real you.

People sometimes snap violently when they are in a bad relationship, when they lose their job, when they argue with their neighbor over a period of time.

I clearly stated that exposing large numbers of Jewish people to alleged hellish brutality and atrocities against Jewish children, women and men

Countries who are unjustly accused of horrible crimes tend to, y'know, deny them. Even countries justly accused. Unless there was some sort of pressure forcing Germany to go along with the lie for 70 years. Even during and after the war, the Americans couldn't have provided so much pressure. When were the Nazis and other witnesses coached and the massive amounts of documents and physical evidence falsified? Before the war? During? After? I'll start my reply by telling a joke relayed from a Greek friend of a colleague.

The joke is a sardonic reference to the fact that Nazi Germany occupied Greece during WWII and left a trail of devastation, famine and impoverishment behind it. In the current European financial crisis, it's little surprise that outright anti-German sentiment would grow in Greece, and especially because the chief cause of death in WWII in Greece was famine, brought about entirely by the Nazis and Fascists levying excessive occupation costs which caused a hyperinflation and thus, starvation in the cities. What this means is Germany's insistence on fiscal austerity simply isn't going to go down very well in a country that was plundered so extensively 70 years ago, and is just as likely to cause resentments to bubble up as if Britain acted high-handedly to Ireland. (The Irish, btw, are quite big on commemorating a famine that happened 170 years ago, along with battles taking place in the 16th and 17th centuries.)

The Greeks have been pursuing claims for reparations for individual actions since long before the current financial crisis. They believe that Germany owes them up to £60 billion for the war.

'There was a war on' just doesn't cut it when dealing with what happened to Greece, or indeed a dozen other countries in WWII. Greece didn't ask to be in the fight, she was attacked by Hitler's ally Mussolini gratuitously and then invaded by the Nazis. Who proceeded to **** Greece over as explained, before moving on to village-burnings and mass executions. Your glib 'there was a war on' handwave ignores the fact that you're talking about quite concrete war crimes. Of which the Nazis committed rather a lot.
