Romney's Nugent/Trump Problem

OK, I was probably wrong to suggest that Nugent's rant was somehow engineered by the Romney campaign. But I truly don't think they're too upset by it. Mitt appears totally incapable of knowing how to personally pander to the white working class male crowds without looking foolish, and he knows that Obama is hurting so badly among these voters that it will take a dozen Ted Nugents to excite them enough to go to the polls. A dismissive comment such as "I would have put it differently" is just as good as tacit approval to me.

With regards to Obama's Reverend Wright problem, I can certainly see why the comparisons are made, but BO had the balls to make a nuanced, intellectual speech on the issue. Clearly he had to realize that it wouldn't sway the majority of people who would claim that he was in thrall of the Black Separatists (or whatever the hell it was that they claimed) but at least he put his views on the matter on the public record. Does anyone think that Romney is going to be pushed hard enough that he'll need to truly justify (or at least acknowledge) the intellectual contortions he's having to make as he panders to the base?

Obama's campaign (pathetically) threw Hillary Rosen under the bus as soon as that crapstorm started. I would be shocked if Romney's campaign did anything similar to The Nuge (or if they would even be pressed enough to consider it, as Murdoch certainly isn't going to press it beyond the Left Wing Media Conspiracy mode.)

Huh. I would've thought for sure they'd offer him a job.
IIRC, he's a badge collector like Elvis, so he probably asked them.

He's been perfecting his 'outrageous' skills since he was a teenager... several years ago he had people up in arms over his pronouncement that:

'I've just got one thing to say to all of you people who can't understand a word of English... go back where you came from'.

Of course the people he was actually addressing, wouldn't have been able to be offended...

While the people who could understand English only heard 'you people', and 'go back'.

He plays the media like an expensive archtop.

Did you link to them to make the NRA appear more sane?

Funny, but they don't appear too sane to me.

This is frustrating. I own and enjoy firearms and support the Second Amendment. I think well of "stand your ground" laws, but I find it rather stupid to use the Zimmerman/Martin case in support of them, as the facts of the case are hardly clear.

None of the organizations listed—NRA, GOA, or AHSA—could represent me even unto just that paragraph I wrote. I know I'm weird, but that I am that weird seems a bit, well, weird. Especially as I run into people who substantially agree with me all the time.

That was kind of my point.

Count me in with you (don't know if that makes you feel better or not). I'm not really a fan of organizations in general, and not political ones for sure. The NRA is a perfect example. Looks like a good idea, but in practice they seem just as shrill and reactionary as any jackwagon outfit from the left.

I just keep clear of that stuff.

Yeah, and the left is no good, either. The left wants to show that everyone with a firearm is a jackass, but they don't have to, as the NRA does it for them. I've never met a firearm owner who actually believes according to the NRA, though I've met a lot who are members.

I've heard more than one member justify supporting them because they believe that asking for more than what you want will get you what you really want when you're forced to compromise.

Although most site the NRA's educational material, networking support, and training events as the reason to support them.
