Romney's Nugent/Trump Problem

It's so vacuous and so sweeping It's hard to find a lot of intelligent commentary coming from the Right. It's tempting to call republicans "republitards" based on the level of stupidity eminating from the right. But that would be unfair.

I was once a big fan of the Nuge. Embarrassing.
:( Talk about Embarrassing.

New article with some new info:

http://go.bloomberg.com/political-economy/2012-04-18/ted-nugents-secret-service-call/

The Secret Service has nothing to worry about, Nugent suggested — “I’ve never threatened anybody’s life in my life. I don’t waste my breath threatening.”

“The conclusion will be obvious,” he said, “that I threatened no one.”

I can think of one alternative explanation if Ted Nugent didn't threaten the president: he threatened to commit suicide, if Obama is reelected.

Anyone else remember reading something about how Conservatives on the SCOTUS decided that full cavity searches are OK during a police investigation? I think the Secret Service should follow those guidelines.

The SS needs to make an example of Nugent. Smack him down as hard as the law and his actions allow.
Which will be exactly zero.

The guy is a past master at crafting sound bites that sound like they've crossed the line, but haven't.

Ted Nugent is sadly one of the reasons that I'll never join the NRA, despite being a shooter.

I threw away my card after the 1995 Jack Booted thugs comments by Wayne LaPierre. I never again paid for yearly membership. I was tempted when Heston took over but I just never felt compelled.

I guess some Romney strategist gor a hold of Nugent's people and asked hin to throw the base some red meat to help ignite a campaign sorely lacking in the Passion department. Not the first blunder that their campaign has made - I'm assuming they overestimated Nugie's intellect - and undoubtedly won't be the last. As always, it will be a tiny blip for a couple days (if that) and the pundits will avoid the larger issue, that is, that this mentality is exactly what Romney will pander to in order to have a chance to win.

I wonder why I'm never pandered to by candidates.

I don't see where Romney's campaign is involved. This was at an NRA convention, not organized by the RNC or Romney superPAC. Am I missing something?

Romney no more has a Nugent/Trump problem than Obama has a reverend Wright/Bill Maher problem.

I have to agree. Unless Romney starts making campaign appearances with Nugent, it's not going to matter. Romney is trying to play down his wealth already, so I doubt he will make any more appearances with Trump.

You just did.
I don't think he really threatened anyone but I agree with the Secret Service being concerned and his comments could spur some other crazy person to do something.
ETA: After rereading the comment maybe it was a threat.

I think the connection trying to be made is that Romney's campaign didn't denounce the comments enough or distance themselves from Nugent/Trump/crazies enough.

The fact that they commented against the Nugent comments should show that they don't in fact support them. If they had just hand-waved them it would have been one thing, but I just can't pin this on Romney or his campaign.

On Nugent and the NRA however...

If one were inclined to make hay out of Romney+Nugent, one could point to similar statements Nugent made in the past, and point to Romney's solicitation of Nugent's endorsement.

[pathetic gloat]I always disliked Nugent's guitar playing, even before I knew thing one about him. [/pathetic gloat]
