Obama Executes "All of the Above" Energy Plan by Killing Keystone Pipeline.

“There’s a report this morning that President Obama is personally making phone calls to Democrat Senators he thinks might vote for this amendment. He’s asking them not to. And, frankly, it’s hard to even comprehend how out of touch he is on this issue.

“I mean, think about it: at a moment when millions are out of work, gas prices are skyrocketing and the Middle East is in turmoil, we’ve got a president who’s up making phone calls trying to block a pipeline here at home. It’s unbelievable."

-- Sen. Mitch McConnell

...
Wait, don't you get it?

Just like cutting demand will lower the price of gas at the pump, similarly, cutting projects with jobs will cut demand for jobs.

Analysts say the Keystone will raise gasoline prices in the midwest by 20-30 cents.

WHY?

Because the oil that is here now and that feeds midwestern refineries is cheap because it cannot be transported to world markets easily.

Build the pipeline, and it is no longer cheap here because it is more valuable on the world market.

So, Conservatives; Why do you want to raise my gasoline prices? Is this the stated goal of Conservatism? :p

So, it would be cheaper to ship it to China than to Kansas??? Excellent reasoning.

IMO, instead of sinking that cash into a pipeline, we should be building more nuclear reactors.

You ship your product to where you get the most money for it. If during the Cold War you could have gotten Levis jeans to the Soviet Union, you would have made so much money in profit from selling them at a huge markup it would have more than covered the cost of the much longer trip, making it far cheaper to ship your jeans from Kansas to Russia than it would have been to sell them locally in Kansas.

Of course they're all made in Mexico now, for other economic reasons.

Isn't economics the one they call "the dismal science"?

There is already a limit on oil refining capability. As I understand it, we are even standing to loose capacity, as old plants must be shut down. No one is talking about building new refining plants.
Dumping a large quantity of dirty, hard-to-refine Canadian oil on the world market would have essentially no effect on gas prices here.
The pipeline falls into the " bringing home the bacon" catagory. A substantial number of construction workers get hired in the concerned states. Same thing happened with the Alaska pipeline.
When the pipeline was done, these jobs evaporated.

But for a couple of years, senators and congressmen can say "look what I did for you!"

I have no idea why Canada would want to build the pipeline anyway, when it can be refined in Canada and create jobs in this country.

What is unbelievable is how a stupid, idiotic, liar like Mitch McConnell could become a US Senator.

If McConnell was so serious about the oil issue then he would work on the oil issue as opposed to simply bitch and complain about the oil issue.

Right, because opposition for any reason to any endeavor that would create jobs is proof of a general policy to oppose projects that would create jobs. Yep, that's certainly a fair and accurate characterization of the Obama administration's position on jobs.

What the drooling moron from Kentucky fails to grasp is that a serious accident would result in damage to our agricultural capactity for decades. Further, the corporatist meat puppet is laboring under the delusion that oil companies go out of their way to prevent accidents and failures due to corrosion of pipelines.

Time for that schmuck to follow his brain into retirement.
