OMG, One day until the new iPad is announced. I really hope I don't get hit by a car today.
Indeed it's not.
Not only does it stop accidents like the one you describe (I've also seen it avoid similar when a user's dog has caught the cable), but also when sat in the dark (I do that a lot) and the laptop needs plugging in to charge, you don't have to fiddle with the plug and socket, you just hold the cable somewhere near and it just goes where it needs to be on it's own.![]()
I never said the Mag-Safe plug is useless. The one on my hot water boiler in my kitchen is very useful.
You said: "The "MagSafe" power adapter is just a freaking magnet on the power cord. Worth a couple bucks more on the list price, tops.
According to wikipedia:
Apple exclusively owns US Patent No. 7311526 ("Magnetic connector for electronic device", issued in 2007) and does not license the MagSafe connector or the patent.
There had been a variety of reports of the newer MagSafe AC adapter not working with older MagSafe-powered MacBooks and MacBook Pros.[citation needed] Apple released a firmware update in October 2010 that it claims resolves this issue.[15] However the installer for the firmware update will not run on certain older MacBooks, which means that the firmware can not be updated. This in turn means that it is not possible to use the new MagSafe power adapter with these MacBooks. Currently it is not possible to buy new replacement MagSafe AC adapters (either from Apple or third-party suppliers) that work with these MacBooks, forcing owners to look for used original adapters.
Mine's so fantastic that it hasn't broken. Can't run your machine without it. They won't fix it. They won't let anybody else make it.

Mines so fantastic it broke, fixed itself, cleaned my car and fed the dog.
Then it slept with my wife.![]()
You win!
Now, what's the best way to get spittle off an iPad screen?
Can't run your machine without it. They won't fix it. They won't let anybody else make it.
:
That's Apple's marketing term for their high resolution displays. The iPad 3 will have 4x as many pixels than the previous iPads. Should be a gorgeous display.
Jobs said "there's a magic number around 300dpi, if you hold something about 10-12 inches away from your eye, it's the limit of the human retina to distinguish pixels."
I think it is bad to not let other manufacturers use a particular safety mechanism in their devices. You said: "The "MagSafe" power adapter is just a freaking magnet on the power cord. Worth a couple bucks more on the list price, tops.
