I watched a documentary interviewing refugees from the country and they suggested about 50% of the population believes with all their heart in their leader. The rest, just go along to stay alive.

Well to be fair, not that Reagan was anything like Kim Jong Ill but there were a lot of tears immediately following his death. JFK, Churchill and FDR as well. Debating that minor point seems a little thin skinned.
