The reaction to the OWS protests by "the right" have been pretty nasty. Talking against rampant capitalism is evidently akin to treason in some circles.
Of course, these same talking heads still go on about "taking America back" from Obama...

Cain was utterly dismissive of the protests, for instance. Of course, he's dismissive of a lot of things... I fear he's rapidly becoming a joke candidate.
becoming??
the pizza prince prez is pretty much akin to pat paulson running for prez in the old 'rowan and martin's laugh-in days.....
except, paulson was not a bigoted bumbling buffoon.

The opposition is nowhere near "unified solidarity". It is, at best, a semi-organized amorphous coalition of factions, each with it's own agenda. It lacks significant central authority, structure and discipline. As such, it is ineffective.

Get back to me when the OWS movement starts looking less like a half-hearted mob and more like the 60s Civil Rights movement.

I've seen this argument a lot, that OWS is just a bunch of people, disorganized, vapid, banal, inchoate, incoherent, unfocused, and basically trivial. I cannot find much fault in the arguments, but they do cause cognitive dissonance. This is because, if they are so utterly trivial, what is the motivation for such strong, violent reactions to them?

Somebody is taking them extremely seriously. I suspect that many of those who do are also mocking them as trivial.

ISomebody is taking them extremely seriously. I suspect that many of those who do are also mocking them as trivial.

That's a classic propaganda technique, one that we see used here quite often.

Basically, while one works behind the scenes to cause as much trouble for a particular crowd, one publically mocks them and makes fun of them. It's a simple trick, they don't want the crowd to grow, and they know many people fear ridicule.

Miller is the graphic artist responsible for Sin City, 300, etc. In interviews, he comes across as pretty much a jerk.

Why didn't the Tea Party protesters suffer the wrath of the police? Is it because gun-loving middle-aged white guys are more peaceful?
My guess is that by picking up most of their own trash they didn't piss off the local authorities as badly as this latest group. I've seen a lot of commentary on "why aren't the tea party sorts and Occupy sorts making common cause?" There is some common ground ... but perhaps not enough.
the two pigs responsible for the brutality at uc davis have ben suspended.
Do you go out of your way to dehumanize people as a conscious habit, or is there some other reason?

Tourette's, perhaps?

Even more importantly, they want to keep away anyone or any group that might give the movement "legitimacy" with the public, or start to get it organized for effective action.

The Tea Partiers and the Occupiers couldn't be more different if they tried to be. They come from completely different philosophical and political underpinnings.

I think the key that you overlook was this part of the article's statement:

(For the record, I support many of the OWS positions. I just don't think the movement itself is that effective.

Right, That's why i said - the article is a bit over the top at this point - I think that this like many other movements yet lacks a leader. I think a lot of good adn bad movements fail because they don't find a good leader who can unify and focus them. It's where OWS is right now.

To keep them in line DAMMIT!

To be fair, there IS a lot of crime on college campuses...and much of it goes unreported to the regular police. Campus Security can find itself in a tight spot in a hurry.

I would tend to agree...what I wonder is where said leader might come from. I just don't see any major figures out there with the stature and/or moral authority to unite such a movement.

Could you expand on that thought please?

"Without any provocation whatsoever, other than the bodies of these students sitting where they were on the ground, with their arms linked, police pepper-sprayed students," wrote Nathan Brown, an assistant professor in the college's English Department, in an open letter to the chancellor. He said that police then used batons to separate the students, kneeled on their bodies and pushed their heads to the ground.
"When students covered their eyes with their clothing, police forced open their mouths and pepper-sprayed down their throats," Brown wrote.
He called on Katehi to resign.
"I call for your resignation because you are unfit to do your job. You are unfit to ensure the safety of students at UC Davis. In fact: you are the primary threat to the safety of students at UC Davis."

Why aren't pics/utube of these events not all over the web?
