What if they are playing with maps????????? <blah blah blah cut>

Patrick please provide a citation for the 'Julian System' you claim exists. So far the only one playing with maps us you, unless you care to offer proof otherwise?

Google Julian, Besselian coordinates.

Google Julian, Besselian coordinates. It is in a sense esoteric, but very mainstream for space flight and celestial navigation/position determination and so forth.

Patrick claims to be a man in his 50s, who can't figure out why I is skipped off a map grid, even though is done in any number of labeling systems to avoids confusion. He has no clue about the military phonetic alphabet even though its been used in innumerable movies and TV shows. really with every passing page the estimate of his real age has to be revised downwards.

Around eleven and falling. Why he is keeping up this pretense is a mystery.

Have you really never heard of the phonetic alphabet? Do you really not understand why it is standard to miss I and O when using the alphabet in coordinate systems? Are you seriously expecting 13 to be missed out?

I am beyond gobsmacked at this comprehensive ignorance of everyday knowledge.

Unfortunately for you I did that, it is no way a 'Julian System' of co-ordinates for mapping. Let's have a relevant citation please instead of what you found by Googling the words 'Julian coordinates astronomy'.

You cannot navigate, nor determine positions, using a calendar. Please stop perpetuating yet another lie.

Citation needed.

"Since 1984, Julian epochs are used in preference to the earlier Besselian epochs."

Since when? Oh, since nineteen eighty four. Long before Patrick was born.

"The previous standard equinox and epoch were B1950.0, a Besselian epoch."

Oh. Then there would have been no real need for the astronauts to discuss which epoch they were in, would there? And even if it had slipped their mind, the answer would have been B1950.0 Not J-anything. Bravo, not Juliet.

Maybe I got a hipster aerospace engineering degree, Julian/Basselian "coordinates" were too mainstream to teach.

Given how many posters have demonstrated that sort of expertise in aerospace and astronomy it's a serious demonstration of Patrick's ineptitude that he apparently didn't think anyone would notice his misdirection.

It really is like watching someone punching himself repeatedly in the face.

Pat - This is why people don't take you seriously.

Well, I am glad the poo issue has been cleared. Not that Dr Patrick Tea-Highgain will admit he was wrong about them being knee deep in excrement. After all he might want to bring it up again in a few thousand posts as if he was never shown to be totally delusional.

And now the bad news...

I am merely pointing out the contradiction.

No, you are just back to pointing out that you are unable to differentiate between "can not", "could not" and "did not". Maybe it is a teenage thing. Perhaps you will grow out of it.

Oh and you do know Collins was orbiting right?
Complete orbit in 1hour 58 minutes.
Not just sitting there like some imaginary UFO.

And it's another Wunder-Blunder from P1K.

Patrick, you do realise that Collins and Columbia were orbiting the Moon?

For Armstrong and Aldrin on the surface, Columbia would have whizzed through the Lunar sky from horizon to horizon in 37 minutes. How could it be 17 degrees from the Earth in the Lunar sky? (Well except very briefly twice every orbit)

Only problem is, why ever would one want to confuse people and skip the "I" in the grid labeling system? They didn't skip "13".

Oh great. He has found a whole new seam of No Clue to explore. Has anyone kept a log of Patrick's Dumbest Statements...

... even though Emil Shyster could do all of this by way of something sophisticated like employing a Julian or Besselian accounting system, he chooses instead to mess with maps...

This is priceless. It's the way you keep solemnly waving your hands that makes it so funny. Would you care to explain how he'd "do something sophisticated" with astronomical coordinate system references which are only updated every few decades?

I can just imagine it:
"Ah, yes, if we take, in particular, this reading of the right ascension and declination of Rigel and compare it to what it would have been if we'd been using B1925.0 coordinates instead of B1950.0, then we can clearly see that the infinitessimal difference puts us (takes pipe from mouth and taps moon map with stem) ...here." :D

I have been tempted to keep a list, but I keep spraying coffee on my screen when I read his screeds. Running out of anti-static wipes now.
