"Mass casualties" at crash at Nevada airshow

Climbing is when you get the most Gs, and blood rushes out of the brain.

Well, turning too, but turning is just climbing sideways.
I didn't think a small plane would produce the kind of G's a fast jet would.

"Crash wiped out the front of the box section" according to the news on MSNBC right now.

Pilot was only 74, not 80.

There would have been many more if it hit the stands.

Sorry, doing three things at once means my writing is sometimes incomprehensible...
There will be more than 3 dead, the pilot and 2 which died at the hospital. I'm pretty sure they triaged a number of dead at the scene and didn't send them to any hospital. IE the dead on scene have likely not been counted yet.

Gee- an expert on everything physiological whom doesn't know that a=r*w233 feet long, 37 foot wingspan, 11 feet high-on the original-the racers have their wings clipped, among other things.
and 400 mph is 586 feet/second, giving an energy level of about 5000*5862 foot*lb

Rachel Maddow and MSNBC really need to take a hard look at the way they screwed up their reporting on this crash tonight. They were the only national station treating this as a huge story, and most of their details were all wrong. They were the ones that said Jimmy was 80 years old, and in their early reports were saying many more were dead. Rachel even stayed later than her hour before the prison shows started, I sure hope she will issue an apology Monday.

Where do you get all that?

Anderson Cooper spent most or all of his show on CNN reporting on this story too, before many of the details were known. In fact, it's still front page "breaking news" on their site. Fox News headlines it "'Unbelievable Gore' at Air Race Crash" and it's the primary story on their site. That's not a "huge story"?

And MSNBC was not the one who reported the pilot was 80 years old--most of the news sources reported that before it was corrected during the news conference. I linked to a story saying that from Voice of America in this very thread.

What's your beef against Maddow and MSNBC? You can't leave your politics behind when talking about a tragedy like this?

Dream on...
The pundits are already calling for an end to airshows...

I take it you missed the news conference where the spokesperson for the airport said, "Jimmy would be really mad at me, he's 74 not 80".

And you do know, I hope, that the word, "casualties" means dead AND WOUNDED, not just dead, right?

As for how many dead, I don't know what you saw but I watched most of the coverage on Maddow and I heard nothing like you are claiming. You really should check your political animosity at the door when the news is apolitical.

The pundits are already calling for an end to airshows...
After a Blue Angels crash in 2007 they changed the annual air show here in Seattle. The Angels perform every year at Seafair. I think that year or the next we had another team, then they went back to the Blue Angels but they fly further out and away from the houses now. The jets used to literally go right past my window, now they fly by tens of miles away.

CNN didn't start the coverage for an hour and when they did MSNBC had already updated a lot of facts while CNN continued to report the older information.

It's bizarre when peoples' political bias taints everything so thoroughly.

From CNN Online:
Local fire officials are reporting multiple fatalities and critical injuries, according to Ian Gregor, a spokesman with the FAA.
He said the aircraft did not catch fire, but there was a wide debris field following the crash.
Gary Arthur, another witness to the accident, said the plane wavered a few times, suggesting the pilot had tried to get control before going down....

...Several witnesses were calling the pilot a hero because he was able to maneuver the plan away from the grandstands where thousands were seated at the very last moment.
Ben Cissell said the plane crashed about 100 feet from where he was seated .
"I think that pilot in the last seconds pulled up because he saw the bleachers and saved about 200 or 300 others," Cissell said. " I don't mean this as a disrespect to others injured, but that pilot is a hero. He saved a lot of lives today. It could have been much worse."
Kim Fonda said she also saw the plane streaking toward where she was seated in the grandstand.
"I closed my eyes and said I am going to die now," Fonda said. " I was literally preparing to die and then he jerked the plane away and it landed like 25 feet from us. I want his family to know he was a hero."

quick lets make some laws!
Quick, ban something!

The totaltitarian kneejerk element around here never fails to amuse

I'm a die hard liberal, and watch Rachel nightly, the story broke at the end of Lawrence's show. I flipped around during her commercials and CNN was showing that dude that replaced larry king, and hannity was mad at obama for something. When MsNBC broke this story they were reporting 12-25 dead...that's not news, that's speculation. His age should have been easy to confirm as he was really well known as a stunt and race pilot.

Reminded me of Balloon Boy.

Well then I don't know what your issues are but I didn't see the same things you claim to have seen. Perhaps the news itself is your issue? We might agree a bit more there. I do think sadly, there are a lot more casualties. We'll find out tomorrow.
