Why God is God Alone, and No One Else

I may have missed Marduk's point but I thought he was saying that people can't figure out what God is, so they make God as something like we are, a person.
My reply was that God does not have to be a person, but that some people may never be able to think of God in any other way. Like me, I always say, Him, as if God was a man. I feel it may be disrespectful to say, IT. Just doesn't sound right to me.

That is because there are no gods.

I have recently kept the radio off. A year ago I turned my TV off. I just don't like where we are headed. I opened a web page today and some one is saying there are plans for war in Syria and Iran. I'm wondering if there is some way to not have that happen. It may be too late but I guess after the Apocalypse, we could find sanity.

If you can seriously use the word 'apocalypse', there is no hope for you finding sanity.

No. Nor should we. Since I don't think there are any gods, it would be wrong of me to say that there are any, let alone 'one'.
Your 'partisanship' is my 'thirst for truth'. I have no intention of giving it up. Your ways is superstition and delusion and should be shunned.
Hell, no.
I did not word this how I should have.
I probably should have prefaced it with something like:
Among those who do already believe in a God. . .

I have no interest whatsoever in evangelizing the atheist.
As the letter I posted a little earlier says, it is better than religion run on fear.

Threats are not tolerated here.

Right, again this is like a movie review my friend wrote and emailed to a few people on his mailing list, of a show titled, Atheists in Heaven.
I thought I would leave his piece exactly as he wrote it.

Nonsense. That is precisely what you have been doing since you got here.

No, I was always trying to mitigate the weird(to me), or not properly interpreted versions of what went under the label, Christianity, on this forum.
You will never find a post by me suggesting that an atheist should become a christian. I always defended the atheist who did good, and criticized the Christians who claimed you only have to give yourself a particular label to go to heaven.

You understand that not knowing about things doesn't make them not happen?

Right, so I already have a general idea of the future, which is even more wars than we have now, with lots more dead people.
Once I understand thar, watching it on TV is unnecessary.
I want to do something so I am at war with the religions creating the wars.
Not all the people who are of the main religions, but just the small sects of those religions whose purpose is to always push for war.
I have no way to fight, other than trying to wreck their arguments they use to gain support.

That is true , gods are certainly in a place where I can't go without being accused of murder : in others people head.

The problem has never been for us atheist to admit that, the problem has always been the theist which confuse their own voice of reason and morality sense, with gods's will.

This is a very real phenomenon, I know from people who tell me so, that God talks directly to them, and through them, to others. It really freaks me out, but I have to accept that this is what they really believe.

Ethnikos, what about the millions of people who believe there are multiple gods? Polytheism is still very popular in many parts of the world. Your insistence that there is really only one would be very insulting to them.
You know like an infinite amount more than me on the subject so I would ask you, isn't there somewhere an ultimate God who all the gods are the children of?

Doesn't make any difference.

Just look at Catholic v Protestant. They believed in the same god and slaughtered each other.

Just look at Sunni v Shia. They believe in the same god and continue to slaughter each other.

What I am throwing out for consideration is an agreement that we have no way to directly know God ourselves except in the vaguest of terms.
These wars (you give as examples) may be that each party believe only they have the correct interpretation of God.
The world, as a collective body would tell the party, No, all interpretations are equally invalid.

There are plenty of people who believe they have a close, personal relationship with God and know Him intimately.

How are you going to convince them that they are wrong?

Don't.
People in general will understand that this is for personal use and that everyone has a relationship to the Creator God Of the Universe, if for no other reason than having been also created by that God.
But one is not to hold their personal revelation as being higher than another's. One could hold that opinion, but should keep that opinion (of their superiority) to themselves.

Is it possible for people to agree there is one God?
Can people give up partisanship enough to agree that God is
far away somewhere, in a place we can not go, and that God
does no come here and that we can not know His name?
Would the world be a better place if we could?

Problem with that is that a young carpenter arrived on the scene and said God has sent him to give messages to the world such as "love one another".
Natch he was killed for saying appalling stuff like that, and people have been wondering whether to believe him ever since..
