I have recently kept the radio off. A year ago I turned my TV off. I just don't like where we are headed. I opened a web page today and some one is saying there are plans for war in Syria and Iran. I'm wondering if there is some way to not have that happen. It may be too late but I guess after the Apocalypse, we could find sanity.

Things have been worse in the past. Ever hear of WWII? The Great Plague? The Ice Ages? I saw that movie Apocalypse,it was awful. The world is a mixture of sane and insane people,it always has been.

Fear of death(as mentioned in Hebrews) has most so-called believers in bondage still.

"I can face death bravely, if I know I'm going to heaven" is still fear of death.

"I can face death bravely, if I know I will be resurrected" is still fear of death.

"I live thus and so, so as to live forever" Is immorality.

"I live thus and so, because it is my moral compass" is morality.



Fear of death is self centered, thus religion that caters to that self centered fear is useful only for manipulation of the fearful.



The popular notion of religion is that it is concerned with what happens to you after death, and how to live thus and so so as to have some favorable personal egoic(as in recognition of the self as being the same self) outcome.



"True religion, and undefiled is to do this for the poor, and that for the sick, and something else for someone's benefit." Period.



I personally don't know anything about any resurrection or continuing egoic existence, in fact, I rather doubt it, but I have a strong sense of what "true religion" is. And it will never be a major powerful world religion, it will crush no enemies in battle, or dash the heads of the enemy children against the stones. It will lose at every turn, and never rule the nations with an iron rod.

Just my thoughts on what it could mean to be an atheist.

I said some people think of God, not as a person.
That (personhood) would be excluded from the definition, but not a clause saying God is not.

That's a good point. But I prefer fantasy. I want one with giants, unicorns, talking snakes, talking donkeys, witches, a magic Jew who can walk on water. Lots of sex, and give me lots of killing, genocide, infanticide, stoning, burning, just good old fashion iron age hell... wait, what? It's all in the Bible? Damn. It's poorly written but the god botherers got all the fantasy themes first.

I may have missed Marduk's point but I thought he was saying that people can't figure out what God is, so they make God as something like we are, a person.
My reply was that God does not have to be a person, but that some people may never be able to think of God in any other way. Like me, I always say, Him, as if God was a man. I feel it may be disrespectful to say, IT. Just doesn't sound right to me.
