Why God is God Alone, and No One Else

They be the minority. The majority have at least a vague concept of a god out there, somewhere.
I'm not saying create a new theology but put a limit on what is being done by religionists of the world in the name of whatever.
All the people with a fuzzy god concept, unite in favor of adoption of that god as the official world God, for political purposes, not for actual worship because the fuzzy God needs no worship.

And the world will smell of roses for evermore. Eamon.

I would rather the world focus on the things that bring us together rather than the things that draw us apart

Not what I had in mind. But sorta.
I think of the what I was brought up in, Christianity and that is the picture I get from it, that God is way out in heaven and Jesus who was his representative just told everyone to be nice to each other.
That is a real basic understanding of it and it would fit, for a start, and we could have the Jews claim that same god, and the muslims. They could all say that God is our God but the names we use just mean, god.

Embrace the zero evidence god.
A much more people friendly sort of God.
Conan is not such a good analogy because he was no a zealot bu just recognized it was what his tribe said God was and the name stuck with him.
Like people who say, Jesus! but not in a worshipful way.
But Conan was ready to take the world and would have for Crom, if he needed a god to do it in the name of.

This thread won't end well for you, I can tell.

What you aren't getting is that Conan is a fantasy character living in a fantasy world. In fantasy settings gods are well defined and there exists plenty of evidence of their existence.

In the real world there are real people believing in a fantasy god, that is poorly defined and has no real evidence for it's existence.

Since you don't get a choice to live in a fantasy world and must live in the real one than the choice should be obvious that there is no real god, and yet people still cling to the fantasy god.

Is it possible for people to agree there is one God?

Can people give up partisanship enough to agree that God is
far away somewhere, in a place we can not go, and that God
does no come here and that we can not know His name?

Would the world be a better place if we could?
Bad idea. If Theists didn't continue to kill opposing Theists they would kill nasty Atheists like me. After all, Theists need someone to sacrifice to their god.

Of course. As long as you all agree that my God is the One God, and I am His One True Representative on Earth, and you must all do precisely as I say.

Or else.

I have recently kept the radio off. A year ago I turned my TV off. I just don't like where we are headed. I opened a web page today and some one is saying there are plans for war in Syria and Iran. I'm wondering if there is some way to not have that happen. It may be too late but I guess after the Apocalypse, we could find sanity.

Backing off on a claim for ownership of the world by one particular god would seem to be an improvement.
So, what you're saying is: If everyone agrees on something, no one would disagree enough to fight about that something.

I think promoting a peaceful co-existence of different ideas about god has a higher chance of being successful, especially in the long run.

Even if, by fiat, you managed to successfully force everyone in the world to believe in one god (which is extremely difficult to do, but let's ignore that, for argument's sake); it will only be a matter of time before fissures of differences crop up again. And, then you're back to multiple ideas about how many gods there are. It might only take a generation or two before all that (extremely difficult) hard work is undone.

Since there seems to be a naturally expanding circle of altruism amongst our species, anyway: It will likely become easier to convince everyone not to hurt each other in spite of differences, over time.

Yeah, I could see that, and there would be the UN Ambassador for God, seated in the General Assembly. I'm not saying I have the answer but what we have now is just unacceptable.

It would not work if it was by force and I think if anyone tried, they would already know that and we should recognize those as not having the best interest of the people of the planet at heart.

The non-religous are growing

The non-religous are more content and are less violent and have far better societies. I think the god stuff won't ever go away but it will become the minority if for no other reason that it has nothing to offer but false hope.

When people learn they can be free, moral and happy there will be no need for god.

I didn't start it with high hopes.
I wanted something to think about, if we can do something positive about what probably a few people do with something most people only have a very fuzzy notion of.

I feel sad from a discussion on another forum with a so-called Christian who told me we can not be good like Jesus because he was God.

I think it's great that internet forums and blogs have created such an unprecedented amount of personal debates between Believers/Theists and Skeptics/Atheists. "The truth will out" (but not in my lifetime).

That is a good idea about the radio and TV. Bad brain waves and all.
Perhaps you could dig yourself a hole. A deep hole and live in that until after the end of mankind.
You could find lots of sanity in a deep hole.

Just so you know the evil goes through the wires of the internet as well.
Better to hit the off button than spend eternity burning in hell.

You understand that not knowing about things doesn't make them not happen?

That is true , gods are certainly in a place where I can't go without being accused of murder : in others people head.

The problem has never been for us atheist to admit that, the problem has always been the theist which confuse their own voice of reason and morality sense, with gods's will.

Yeah but Conan just isn't the same without the Max Weinberg 7.

Ethnikos,

You have Commendable ethics.

Unfortunately mate....the problems of the world ARE NOT RELIGIONS. Religion is a SYMPTOM and NOT a cause.

The cause of the world's trouble is DISENFRANCHISEMENT of entire populations...... Due to GREED

Do you know about the French revolution? When people got fed up with being abused they looked at who was the cause of their misery and suffering and did something about it. They needed a rallying point....they rallied behind Liberty, Fraternity and Equality.....why did they not rally behind GOD?....well...maybe because they saw that GOD (ie church) was on the side of the Royalty and combined they were the abuser.

Now....fast forward to the GLOBAL economy of today. Think of France of the 18th century as being the GLOBAL WORLD of today.

Who do you think would be the ROYALTY? Who are the bourgeoisie ? Who do you think would be the downtrodden serfs and peasants?

Well.... if we the bourgeoisie living in the COURTS of the NOBILITY and are enjoying some of the luxuries the ROYALTY are bestowing on us keep ignoring the suffering of the serfs and peasants....what do you think will be the final outcome? What happened to the bourgeoisie of France?

The problem of the world is not religion....it is only a rallying point.

What we need is to give the SERFS back their dignity....before they revolt and storm the Versailles.

We need to ENFRANCHISE them....people who have a future, dignity and are invested in the system will NOT want to destroy it.

So let’s ENFRANCHISE them....let’s give them hope and dignity and a reason to live and to want to be part of us.

Unfortunately...GREED is why nothing idealistic will ever last....human beings are VICIOUS KILLERS.....just watch enough Chimpanzees in the wild and you will know what we are.....the only reason humanity is not living in jungles still is because of a FEW FREAKS who carried humanity forward. The rest of humans are not that far removed from Chimpanzees...they are just the beneficiaries of the efforts of a handful of FREAKS OF NATURE who had brains to cause the advancement of the race.

The most noble and ultimate achievement of mankind USED TO BE the USA. Now look where it is due to SELF-RIGHTEOUS ARROGANT UNCURBED GREED (a.k.a. the American dream).
