I haven't read this whole thread so I don't know if this has arleady been posted.

(do a GoogleVideo search on "Robert Newmans History of Oil")

It's an analysis of why world war one began.

Rather than just demand that everyone watch a 45-minute video made by a comedian and treat it as historical fact, would you like to highlight any arguments that you think are relevant? Or is this another one that you watched a couple of years ago and you're too lazy to watch again?

Have you heard of these things called libraries and objects known as history books?

He thinks they're faked and filled with deliberate false information. (No, I'm not kidding. See his posts in the threads about the moon landings being faked.)

Germany had more than two critical points in its economy. There was its electrical supply, which, had it been attacked in a sustained manner, would have crippled Germany's industry as effectively as the attacks on oil and transportation did later in the war. Then there was its transportation network. And its ball bearing production. The production of certain chemicals was yet another. Engine manufacture is still another.

There are several critical choke points in any industrialized nation's economy.
In fact Germany under Hitler had no proper strategic resource planning; oil, aluminium, rubber, tungsten, iron, chromium, copper, nickel, cobalt.........

Yeah, I hope to be reading about that in more detail soon as I have Adam Tooze's The Wages of Destruction on hold at the library.

A conspiracy involving hundreds of thousand of people. Lucky that Freddy was here to bring this to our attention. Now,about that centuries long conspiracy to cover up the fact that the Earth is flat..........

One of Hitler's most brilliant moves was to attack the Soviet Unionswhich up to minutes before he attack them were allowing huge shipments of materials into Germany of strategic goods, bought by the USSR and forwarded to them.

He basically did that most difficult of military maneuvers, cutting his own logistic tail!!

Now that 9/11 is gone lets revisit the percentage of blame for the war, leaving out Japan.

For WWII I put it at 85% Germany, 3% Italy and 12% Allies, mainly due to their appeasement which made Hitler think he COULD get away with invading Poland.

Thoughts?

I would offer 90% Germany 10% Italy. Hitler was scared silly of Italy leading up to the Austrian invasion. He got the green light, formed an alliance with Italy and felt enboldened enough to continue on the path he ultimately did

Been thinking about it more and I have a new accessment

85% German, 5% Italy, 5% Soviets and 5% Allies, (leaving out Japan for the moment), both the allies and soviets encourage, by their actions and inaction, the aggression of the Germany but how what is appeasement worth in distributing blame? Would Hitler have attacked Poland without Soviet help??

I give major points to the USSR — maybe 25%? Question: If Stalin had allowed a popular front in Germany (SPD-KPD), would the Nazis ever have even come to power?

Playing that card puts Germany at zero. The communist could have won as early as 1928 - which may have lead to a whole different world war

I'm not sure if there would have been a high probability of a world war if Germany was communist in the mid 20s. I only say that because it would be similar to the cold war and although there were proxy wars and some hot moments, no world wide war commenced during the cold war. However I'm open minded to what other people think.
