That would be dependent on what type of aircraft we are talking about, and what type of maintenance check we are performing. Minor maintenance checks are usually done over night at the gate, while major maintenance checks are done at a maintenance facility.
A MOH on a B747 could take about a month and cost up to 2 Million dollars. The aircraft manufacturer and the FAA set the maintenance schedules for various types of aircraft, and these schedules are updated during the life of the aircraft.
I am not a technician, so I would not be able to describe the various maintenance checks without being wrong.
BTW, the 1500 man/hours required to install the remote control system in the B707/720B did not include the preparation time, removal of non-require aircraft systems.
