Split Thread [Ed] Personal experiences with gays

Sorry mate, but this made me laugh out loud. Im not sure what to say.... I think Ill just list what you just said since it speaks for itself:

1. "My brother for example acts mildly feminine at times". Apart from cracking up, I have to ask that you define what that means. Theres plenty of women around that probably dont fit your idea of what "feminine" is.

2. "He participated in competitive ballroom dance and was on a dance team, so naturally he was exposed to plenty of gay people", you just couldnt make it up, only in real life hu .... :D:D

3. He apparently picked up some of their traits, but he is completely straight. This is real funny too. Which traits did he pick up? I just got to know.

Listen, I have taken no offence from you, and mean no offence. It doesnt sound like your homophobic, but you got some really funny ideas about gay people.

Which funny ideas would those be? That many gay people act different from straight people? There seems to be some suggestion here that it is rare for gay men to act a bit more feminine. In my experience, it seems to be the opposite, that gay men do indeed act more feminine then straight men.

For example with the ballroom dance gays, they go around calling each other as a term of endearment "Whores, sluts, bitches, etc" and other terms generally associated with women. I have never seen a straight dude say to another straight dude in a girly voice "You are such a slut". Or straight dudes giving each other girly hugs as greetings. Or straight guys grabbing another straight guys hands to lead them somewhere. Or saying that a certain outfit looks "Cute" on them. This is the kind of behavior I have observed in almost every gay dude I have came across. I am not saying that this is how ALL gay men act. I am simply saying that all of the gays I have came across have acted in this fashion.

Only because they're the ones you notice. You don't see it when a gay guy doesn't camp. It's classic confirmation bias.

I've said that to a straight guy. Straight guys occasionally camp too, darling.

Done that.

Er... yep. Well, pretty close. The word I used was 'gorgeous'.

All of the gays you've noticed acted in this fashion. And you noticed them because they acted in this fashion.

Well, since you asked, most of the time it was just a lame attempt to be funny. I've only ever had sex with one man, and it didn't really work out - for either of us. He went on to other men who were more into men, and I went on to women.

And that is how you think women behave?

Not all women. Some do. I would say that the way a lot of gays act, or "camp", as arthwollipot puts it, is much more identifiable with how women act then with how straight men act.

ya, well when my old lady gets in with her lady friends, its bitch this and hoe that and they grab each others bits all the time. She turns into a real lush. The closer her friend the the worse the language gets and...... what? oh, yes?, ok hold it. I have just been reliably informed that its us straight doods that refer to women like that, not feminine women at all. Wow, some better tell my ol'lady.

LOL at the thread title. Haha. I was joking when I said to make that the thread title, but hey, works for me.

Men tend to have a fantazised way of imagining women. Most men understand the difference, because it is fantacy. I think gay men are probably being specifically male when they act and speak in a camp way, in the sence that they are projecting a specifically male image of a female and not at all the way real women act.

So you could argue that camp guys are being as male as butch guys, just in a different way.

Now, a real transexual may well behave much more like a real woman, not a gay man. Quad, do you think transexuals are gay?

The transexual issue is a complicated one, and I think has to be observed on a case by case basis a lot of times. For example, you have the individual who was born with two genitalia (male/female) and the doctor decided to make the baby a man. Well later in life, this person could actually identify as a female, so things get a bit complicated with the classification of whether they are gay or not.

or even, a man gets a sex change to become a woman.

If he marries a man does that make him gay?
If he marries a woman does that make him straight?

The point is, it doesnt really matter what he is because, well because sexual preference doesnt really matter. ANd I think if there were a mercifull god, he'd know that aswell.

Wow, is this junior high? I thought everybody knew by now that sexuality isn't tied to masculinity/femininity. Masculinity/feminity is a sliding scale, and most people of every sexual orientation fall somewhere in the middle. The most visible ones at the ends of the scale are the minorities--the campy femmes and the hyper-masculine. Those minorities are more likely to be gay, yes, but that's not the same as saying the gays are more likely to be in those minorities. (Analogy: Italians are more likely to be Catholic, but Catholics are not more likely to be Italian.)

A good portion of society today would disagree with you that sexual preference doesn't really matter. Personally, I think it matters a great deal, especially when it comes to romantic relationships and transexuals. I am pretty sure that most men would want to know if the transexual they are having sex with was once a dude (Well, still is a dude if you ask me. Turning a penis inside out via cosmetic surgery doesn't really make you a female, but that is probably for another thread).

And I would venture to say that you are incorrect. From my experience, I would say that most gays act femme or camp or whatever you want to call it.

Personally I know at least a couple of trans ladies who would disagree with you there, but as you say that's a topic for another thread (don't make me do the whole split thing again!).
