Charlie Sheen thinks Being Sober is boring.....

I don't know if this has been posted already and was not about to trawl an 8 page thread to find out.

There ain't half some clever bastards out there.

NSFW (it's a little sweary at one point)

So his suit pretty much consists of "He's a big stinker who's making more money than me and I hate hate hate hate hate his smelly guts" .
God, it sounds as if it was written by Gollum, yes it does, my precious.......

I can't wait for the Lawyers and the Law Students who post here to comment on it.....
I'm not a lawyer or a law student, but setting aside the self-indulgent editorializing in the suit's language, I'm of the opinion that "play or pay" is a contractual obligation, and if they've guaranteed 24 episodes, they're probably on the hook for them.

OMG OMG OMG! I just had a brilliant idea! Inspired by two threads happening to be next to each other.

Charlie Sheen should have Justin Bieber as his intern!

They could film the resulting mayhem for a reality show. Will Sheen hit on (or just hit) Bieber's flock of barely-and-below-legal fans? Or will Bieber be corrupted into wild living? Can someone have both floppy precious hair and tiger blood? Let's find out!

Unless Sheen acted in such a way as to make filming impossible. I am sure there are clauses in the contract that give the studio an out from "Play or Pay" under certain circumstances.

Yeah, but it's ad-libbing, not the polished stuff that made the program amusing.
He's opening a traveling burlesque show here.
I wonder if he'll self-destruct on stage.

Oh . . . I am so out of the loop here. I don't know who Bieber is. No, I don't live in a cave.

OMG! Like Wow!
The cute lil kid and his haircut are so, like, famous!
All the movie/tv/teenybopper media are just so, like, overwhelmed with the tyke.

Well, being sober IS boring.
But being a drug addict alcoholic is dangerous to yourself and others.

I guess it depends on what you want more: "fun" or not dying.

Wait....what?

As a non-drinker I think I've had a lot of pretty exciting moments in my life.

And everyone I know that does drink is a loser alcoholic. I have read about something called a social drinker that does it in moderation but have I have seen precious little of it in real life. At least not since my college days I have seen or interacted with social drinkers. I suspect they are still out there somewhere.

Anyways I think a sober existence is plenty fun. And it sure is better than constant disorientation and vomiting.

And now he's the official Fox News Intergalactic Correspondent, which is funny beyond words to anyone who's ever seen GWAR live or watched one of their movies. :D

Between coopersville IRL ( he is a friend of mine.) and you, why do i keep forgetting to watch his appearances?

And i agree, fox of all stations to give him screen time, is odd. I honestly cannot think of a political candidate that they have supported that he hasn't horribly killed in effigy.

And it is not even " David Brockie" per sae, but his character, so any disconnect with the actions being fictional is a bit blurred.

The problem is being sober isn't boring, some of my most entertaining moments have been learning in class, absolutely sober ( not that i can say the same for some college students, but i digress.). But being sober, is less entertaining than being inebriated.

Both a drinking and non drinking situation could rank a solid 10/10 on an entertainment scale, but certain situations, sans alcohol are simply less entertaining than they would be with alcohol.

I think you need to change your social circle if everyone you know who drinks is a loser alcoholic. literally everyone i know drinks, and when we drink we get **** faced ( to give a bit more detail, i drink seldom, once ever 2 , maybe three weeks, but when i do it is toward a purpose. ) , and none of us are what could be described as ' loser alcoholics'. You have to know that your situation is incredibly uncommon, the vast majority of people in north america have no problem with liquor and imbibe fairly frequently, and a large majority of those people are not ' loser alcoholics'.

Your view of alcohol is slanted, either through personal views, or your incredibly unique social situation. " Disorientation and vomiting" makes it seem you get your knowledge from the effects video games try to implement when a character drinks, versus real life experience.

You very well may have a circle of friends who are all prone to alcoholism, and shouldn't drink. But you can't use this incredibly unique situation to paint the product itself as silly , evil and unentertaining .

And this isn't to take a jab at you, simply to inform you that good times, successful people, and alcohol are not mutually exclusive concepts.

It's not that being sober is boring. Most of the really fun things are best done sober.

However, not being sober makes the less fun things more fun. For example, my wife and I sitting around watching House on Hulu is enjoyable. Add some liquor, and it becomes much more fun.

Seriously?

You don't know a single person that can't have a beer or a glass of wine or anything and not be an alcoholic?

The vast majority of people I know are perfectly able to do that, only some will even get drunk on anything like a regular basis and I think in all my life I've not known more than 5 people with what I'd think of as an alcohol problem.

(One I've lost touch with, one is dead, one had better get their act together within the near future and I guess you could include a fourth person - who got the drinking under control after the death of the 2nd. I've heard rumors about a co-worker but wouldn't really know.)

But I do agree with you, of course: It is not overly difficult to have fun whilst being sober. Of course, alcohol is often available during some of the more fun times seeing how alcohol and social events often go hand in hand, but even then most people aren't drunk for most of these.

I've only had very few hangovers that I thought were really worth it.

That's my experience, too. No one in my circle of friends is what I would consider an alcoholic; some drink fairly regularly in moderation, some (like me) drink seldom but to excess (drunk, though not sick-drunk) for the fun of it.

The few self-acknowledged alcoholics I've known react strongly and negatively to the idea that anyone could possibly drink alcohol in moderation so that's always my first suspicion when I read something like that from Travis above. Maybe the same reaction can be generated by overexposure of a nondrinker to alcoholism, too.

Not sick on the night or not sick on the morning after? If you're not sick the next day I'd actually say you weren't drinking to excess.

I've heard the same before - here on the forum, actually. I can do both - I can sip on a single shot of whiskey for the better part of half an hour, I can enjoy a single beer. I can enjoy a few beers more, too. And I can decide that getting absolutely wasted is the one thing to do right now. (Granted, that decision is hardly ever made sober but even that has happened.)

Maybe the same reaction can be generated by overexposure of a nondrinker to alcoholism, too.

I really don't think Travis would qualify as an alcoholic - ex or otherwise. But if the majority of people I knew were like some of the people I know I'd probably stop drinking, too.

Not to get into too much armchair psychology, but that is my experience as well. Those with a bad history of having to deal with alcoholics tend to have this " It is an expensive, useless liquid that makes people act horribly and ruins their lives. And no one smart could possibly use it. I mean, who wants to throw up?" attitude.

Which to be honest, is a bit offensive. And they never seem to realize this. To tell me that i must be a worse person for drinking, through implication or direct statement, is something that is likely to cause a poor reaction.

Hehe. I definitely feel it the morning after. I managed to make it into my 30s feeling pretty good the mornings after drinking (perhaps aided by drinking infrequently) but now that I'm pushing 40, unless I recover and water-load before going to sleep a hangover is guaranteed.
