Charlie Sheen thinks Being Sober is boring.....

Sheen still winning. Could net 7 million on two month tour. Sold out radio city music hall for two dates (12k tix) in under an hour.

http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_7153.shtml

Which means he is working two months to make the amount he could have made with Three Weeks work on his old TV show.
That he is making this tour indicates that the stories that he is having a cash flow problem (most of his wealth is tied up in assets that do not convert to ready cash easily) are accurate.

Take also into consideration that I have a terrible problem of seeing things as stark black/white good/evil. I've worked on it with my therapist (back when I could afford one) but it still predominates at times. My obvious unique social situation (who else mostly has former Mormon atheists as friends?) only feeds into it. As such I still tend to classify alcohol into the "evil" category and then tend to think of people that use it as weak willed. Not a good thing to do but I'm working on it.

Here's a fun fact: when I was a kid I used to deny myself pleasurable things to try and build character. The big thing was cookies. I loved them and my mom thought I was nuts insisting that she buy them and get everyone else eat them to tempt me while I held out and suffered. I also prevented myself from watching my favorite TV programs on random nights (determined by coin toss) and would instead do things I hated. I was not a normal ten year old. However I took that attitude to college where I was determined to never do anything "fun" while there (no parties, only plain oatmeal for breakfast). That was when I got on my weird "bring back prohibition" kick for awhile.

Nowadays I actually drink diet sodas which, compared to the rest of my life, makes me a regular hedonist.
No more, please; I shall start to weep.

Why?

You know i have the same issue, to a bit lesser of an extent, mostly with hard drugs. So i can empathize.

And don't get me wrong, i am not promoting drinking, some people shouldn't, and if you feel you shouldn't, don't. But in the same sense, i have to say drinking does not make one a bad person.

Coming from someone who had to lose 180 pounds or so, i can also understand denying yourself things. Sometimes to achieve a goal, one has to view things in a certain way. With me it was food, and to this day i still carry a bit of that view when it comes to overeating.

But liquor, well, honestly i feel that it can and does bring people together. Personally my conflict resolution skills become second to none, and i have stopped more fights, ( sometimes literally, and only out of 70% goodness of my heart 30% boredom.) and came to more common ground, drunk that i have sober.

Some people act like turds, and it sucks you have been exposed to them, but don't let that taint your view of everyone who drinks. People who suck tend to be attracted to substance abuse because they don't really have much else. But that doesn't mean everyone who likes to get baked/drunk/etc is a bad person. A drunk sadhatter, is an effective non violent alternative to a bouncer at a party, while honestly, sober, i would probably just mind my own business.

Why would you want to bring people together? Sure, I have friends but I always hang out with them one at a time. Only on very rare occasions do we all come together.

Those are usually called "parties," and some people enjoy them. Then again, some people don't. :)

The more the merrier.

And are those rare occasions good or bad? Is it enjoyable when you are all together or not?

I don't think I have ever managed to get all of my friends together at a single occasion and I likely never will. But a bunch of them at a time - quite regularly!

When one person wants to do something, they simply ask around if anyone wants to join in, and then a group will end up going to the movies, or for dinner or what have you. And it's fun, pure and simple.

A different sort of enjoyment than it would be if I met with just one of them, but fun nonetheless.

Does this really need explaining?

What this guy needs is not more money, but medical and psychological attention.
Well, there is a chance that that might happen.

From: http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2011/03/exclusive-psych-exam-ordered-charlie-sheen
While the terms of Sheen and Mueller's custody agreement have remained confidential, RadarOnline.com has learned one clause -- which Sheen agreed to -- is that he have a full psychological evaluation. "Charlie must submit to a mental health evaluation with a licensed professional before he can see Bob and Max," a source with knowledge of the situation said. "Charlie won't see the boys until he sees a psychiatrist, that is someone neutral, that hasn't previously treated him."

Now, this is from a celebrity gossip site, and as such you should take it with a grain of salt. (And, of course, even if he does see a psychiatrist, the results probably won't be made public, and there's no guarantee he will submit to treatment.)

This is appalling that people want to use his downfall and show him off like as a circus animal.

Agreed, but Sheen is the guy who thought up his personal appreance tour; that sort of reduces my sympathy for him quite a bit. He is more like a circus clown than a circus animal;the animal had no choice in the matter but Sheen did.

.
Robin Williams and Stephen Colbert... the two fastest minds on the box.
I'd love to see them together! :)
Robin Williams has little or no ability to pause for others' participation when he's riffing. I just rewatched The Larry Sanders Show (Netflix streaming FTW!) and even his appearance on a fake talk show was annoying.

I used to be straightedge back in high-school. Around my 21st birthday I really started drinking and had a few lonesome nights with whiskey. In that way, I found myself quite intoxicated and hoping to be sober as soon as possible. That was no fun.

But to reinforce what Sadhatter said. I usually reserve drinking for a weekend spent with friends, and a night of reduced (to the point of no) inhibitions is healthy and quite enjoyable when you can share it with close friends. There are those conversations you have with someone else well into their cups that, at the time, seem to be both profound and introspective, while turning out to be complete gibberish. The rantings of a lone drunk are meaningless unless shared with another intoxicated monster.

It also gives one a taste of how "they could be" (smooth, popular, charming, daring, etc) as opposed to how they think they are. That's always a good feeling.

Am I drunk right now?

The irony of it is that the term " social drinker" tends to refer to someone who has a beer or two at a party. Personally i think this is a misnomer.

I would consider that kind of person an infrequent drinker. Or a "For taste" drinker.

Myself, i am a social drinker. I drink for an occasion, and to excess. That being said, i can go months at a time not drinking, or i could go once a week for months. The alcohol itself doesn't hold the sway over me ( to tell you the truth i am one of the few people that drinks that can admit it all tastes like Crap. I take it for the effect, not the taste. ) , being drunk, without the party just would seem lame.

Now to temper this with my usual self depreciating remarks. I never drank until i was of age ( okay, 20 days before, once, and it was expired gin.) and i got a bit too heavy into it when i was 20 or so. But i had a good head on my shoulders, and once i got to the point where drinking was something i was doing every other day, or every three days, i stopped. It was more the circle of friends i had than my own choosing, and once i got a bit more maturity, i drank how and when i wanted, not to ' fit in'.

Drinking is like anything else, smoking, pot, comic books, collecting, etc. If you have a decent head on your shoulders your going to be fine. But if you don't your going to get into trouble.

My social circle, currently is divided into two categories ( and it has been for a while.) my partying friends, and my nerdy friends. ( though through effort of mine, i have managed to make my closest acquaintances get into d and d , bridging the gap.) I have just as much fun Playing a marathon session of D and D as i do drinking. And on the flip side have seen people get into just as much social and financial trouble with collecting as alcohol.

( for those raising an eyebrow. I have seen people actually have to make the decision of shampoo or comics, and choose comics. Just as i have seen people make that same decision for alcohol. )

So someone would pay money to hear him rant incoherently for 2 hours?

Particularly when you can get exactly the same thing on You Tube for Free?

I really suspect people hope to be in the audience when Sheen collapses on stage. You know, like people will pay money to go to Nascar not to see the race, but in hopes there will be a good wreck.

I've been to shows where the audience had to go through a metal detector, but this is the kind of show where I expect the performer to go through a metal detector.

If there's no alcohol and everyone's arguing is that still a "party?"

The more the merrier.

All my friends tend to hate each other. They all like me but loathe each other. So when we come together it's usually because someone is really pissed off. Once the yelling and stuff is over they disperse.

You can see why we never, ever do anything as a group.

.

If the people are enjoying the arguing, then yes, I would describe it as a party of sorts.

ETA: oops, posted too fast. It sounds like they do not enjoy that.

The next logical thing that will happen is that he will sign a record lucrative deal for a reality TV show, which will follow him and his "goddesses" partying and snorting coke all day, slowly self-destucting themselves into depravity, physical abuse, addiction and mental illness.

And millions will be watching.
