Obama's Libyan Abdication

The battle for Libya has reached a bloody impasse. Moammar Gadhafi continues to hold Tripoli, but his sons and mercenaries have been unable to break the uprising or retake the country's east. Having loudly declared that Gadhafi "needs to step down from power and leave," President Obama now seems to have retreated into a bizarre but all too typical passivity.

We suspect the real reason for Mr. Obama's passivity is more ideological than practical. He and his White House team believe that any U.S. action will somehow be tainted if it isn't wrapped in U.N. or pan-Arab approval. They have internalized their own critique of the Bush Administration to such a degree that they are paralyzed to act even against a dictator as reviled and blood-stained as Gadhafi, and even though it would not require the deployment of U.S. troops.

Mr. Obama won't lead the world because he truly seems to believe that U.S. leadership is morally suspect. But if Mr. Obama thinks George W. Bush was unpopular in the Arab world, he should contemplate the standing of America — and the world reputation of Barack Obama — if Gadhafi and his sons slaughter their way back to power.

A lot of regular army gone over to the other side, still badly trained.
But also a lot of really motivated kids. Some of Colonel Whackjob's strongholds have been overrun by 15-year-olds with AK's.
They have the numbers and the motivation, but have to cross a massive desert and have no planes at their disposal.
They do have slightly more small-arms than Hunter S. Thomson's vacation home.

Again, a Lybia like situation in Saudi-Arabia means that world economy will come to a grinding halt. It is time to go to your supermarket with a few hundred dollar and buy a few hundred or so tins of soup with expiration date 2013 or later. This way you have at least some return of investment in spending all these hours on a forum like this. ;)
 
Israel is the model the Arabs should aspire to. A dynamic democracy that goes from accomplishment to accomplishment.

The bad news is that there is a ridiculous amount of catch-up they would need to do to get to the level of Israel. Doing that mean jettisoning the ingrained cultural pathologies that created their situation in the first place. That sort of thing takes generations.

Israel is a country for 'normal Jews'. Jews who want to identify with their nation, their football club, flag, anthem. Jews with a rather small 'Protokoll-coefficient' so to speak. Left tail of the Bell curve. But Israel is completely unattractive for the Henry Fordian high IQ 'International Jew'; they prefer living in Britain, US, Europe. The only attractive thing about Israel for them is that it can serve as a safe haven if the ground is getting to hot under the feet in the West or elsewhere. Just as Hitler predicted in his Mein Kampf blog.

Where the Jews destroyed Germany in WW1 as a result of the Balfour deal with Britain by bringing their US serfs into the war in exchange for Palestine. And the Jews brought Britain and the US again in the war against Germany during WW2, which basically was started by them, read here.

Meanwhile, ontopic, Ghadaffi retains control of the military, and with that, he appears to be capable of holding off the popular rebellion. I suspect that Ghaddafi is not actually in control, however, and that his sons are really running things. From his public appearances, I doubt he could organise a chook raffle in his current state.

I think that Gadaffi will be a harder nut to crack than Mubarak. He has his tribe behind him. And he has the money. And the oil. And China and Russia will block initiatives in the Security Council. A split of the country or Gadaffi taking Bengazi back seem to be the most likely options.

'Made in Amazonia' is not a strong brand, unlike 'made in Germany', one of the main reasons for Britain and France wanting to start WW1: there were outcompeted on the economic front. As they are today, but at least France knows how to behave now. 'Talented' Israel is occuping place number 47, even beaten by 'Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazahkstan'.
