Michelle Bachman...Moron?

I am not aspiring to lead a major political party or the Presidency of the United States...so I guess I'm just average intellectually challenged. Thanks for asking.

I feel I must ask a question, if not in the particular then in the abstract, regarding the supposition, it's premise, and the clarity of the vision therein.

Does it take a moron to know one, or does it take one of higher and astute intelligence to accurately pinpoint a moron? And of these options, you are....?

Definitely higher and astute intelligence, hence your problem identifying Bachman as a moron.

You still don't get that blindly defending stupidity just because it is on your political side does not help your cause much, does it?

Sure, no problem. I then must ask, should we congradulate you on your newfound discovery of a similar level comrade with Michelle?

We all like to have friends and acquaintances at our own level. There may even be some others here who could be your friends too. They will speak up if they also discover the similarity between themselves and Michelle Bachman.

Are they here?

Yes, they are. Several.

That's nice.

Now, now. Don't be angry. I know it's hard to understand things people say. They say things that are complicated right? So calm down. Have some warm milk. And some cookies.

Seems like this always happens when discussing whether or not someone is a moron:

ETA: And it's so much better when they attempt to be patronizing and don't see the irony:

You are making no sense. Did you have a point?

Just in case it hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, I just saw Michelle Bachman butchering American history, along with some nice commentary about whether or not it's important to get the facts right, in this video:

Wow. Seeing and hearing her say it was more jaw-dropping than reading it.

mhaze, what is your opinion of Michelle Bachmann?

We're unlikely to see a direct response to this question. It's much easier for some folks to mypoically focus on perceived ad hom attacks than defend the lack of substance and factual errors issuing from the mouths of those they support.

If Bachmann does decide to run, I am looking forward to the Cat FIght between her and Sarah Palin, since they will be going after the same exact niche of voters. Could be the All About Eve of the 21st Century....

Cracking up the crackpot vote?

Thats because there should not be any discussions about whether Michelle Bachmann is a moron. She is a lawyer with JD and LLM degrees. She obviously is an intelligent person just like President Obama is obviously intelligent. She may have views you disagree with, she may whitewash and simplify historical facts (although for my white bread ancestors coming here what she said was pretty much true. Italians, Irish and other they were all able to come here and start a new life without great obstacles).

It is easy to post patronizing things to people who think they are so much more intelligent than others although I try not to.

So's Orly Taitz.

Or, you know, make stuff up out of thin air, repeat debunked urban legends as if they are facts, etc.

It's not exactly a great defense of Bachmann to be as ignorant of history as she is. Hint: "No Irish Need Apply" isn't just a fancy saying.

It is easy to post patronizing things to people who think they are so much more intelligent than others although I try not to.
And it's accurate to call someone a moron when they get the most basic facts wrong and insist that they're true.

I suspect many Irish and Italian Americans have a different view of early immigration and their having an easy time of it...sort of remember reading about "no Irish need apply" signs in the 1830s/40s.

Anyway, that may be for a different thread. Here's another Bachman at work video (inside a clip of the Chris Matthews Show on MSNBC). While Chris Matthews is, typically, over the top with his interview of Sal Russo, watch the tape of Bachman trying to explain to an Iowa audience how the Founding Fathers did away with Slavery.

While Matthews, IMO, misuses this speech, to make a rather specious point with his "guest" Sal Russo, the film of Bachman bespeaks either complete lack of care and playing very free and easy with "facts", or it suggests -- and I think it does -- a more basic ignorance of fact...facts that the average 9th grader (not a trained lawyer like the president) should be able to command.

You've never heard of "No Irish Need Apply"?

What she said was way beyond simplification. It was utterly, astoundingly, insultingly wrong to anyone with the smallest understanding of American history.

I think that Bachmann would be the winner of that contest. She sounds a lot more confident in her absurd utterances. And while Palin is a grifter who puts on the airs of a conservative, Bachmann is a true believer. Bachmann also lacks the stench of trailer trash that wafts so naturally from Palin. It seems to me that Palin will decline to seek elected office, and pass the torch Bachmann willingly.

I wouldn't be surprised if she considered Lincoln a "founding father". While it doesn't excuse her extremely poor grasp of history, it does suggest why she may have said that.
