Merged Rep. Giffords Shot In Tucson

If it's true that the Whitehouse had no involvement in the planning or staging of this (and, frankly, you can call me a little skeptical given how careful the Obama administration has been in the past with regards to such things), then I'd say Obama picked the wrong venue for his speech.

You are just so full of failure right now. The POTUS was invited to speak at the University of Arizona by the University of Arizona. He did not pick the venue. The U of A has been at the heart of our city for over 100 years. It is one of our major employers, sources of revenue, and host to many of our cultural events. Not to mention the football and basketball fever that sweeps this town. It was no shock to anyone that the U of A would put on a memorial service or wake or whatever you want to call it. They have the facilities and the place in our community to take the lead in this. We were fortunate to have the President accept the invite. Had he insisted it be moved to another venue I am sure you would be criticizing the arrogance of such a move. (you criticizing someone elses arrogance, thats a funny thought.)

You see the truth is you know nothing about our city or our community. You know nothing so your suppositions about venues and crowd participation are nonsense and only serve to paint you as a truly horrible person. Your skepticism of the white houses lack of involvement in the planning of "Together we Thrive" is based only on your blind hatred of him.

As I write this I can hear the music coming from Judge Rolls funeral at the old city hall. Stop with your heartless B.S. This is not the time.

You don't get it, do you? I have to wonder how many people came expecting grief and prayer, and left confused by the pep rally mood and the t-shirt? It's a symptom of that undercurrent I mentioned.

You don't get it! Unless you have the words of people who attended complaining about the tone of the memorial than you are only wondering this because you want to use it to add another hash mark on your political score board. Leave us the hell alone. We do not need your wondering, your advice, or your spite.

And whether you know it or not, "Together We Thrive" is a political statement. Unity has been this administration's theme over and over since day one. But unity isn't really what this administration has desired. And democracy thrives on difference and division.

In this case Together We Thrive was the name for a city wide memorial to honor 6 dead friends (one a 9 year old girl) be thankful for those who survived and Applaud our heros. That was all it was.

And yet your party has been the one insisting that Arizona must do what democrats elsewhere say where illegal immigration is concerned. Guess you didn't want to be left alone in that case.

Quit trying to make this political you heartless hack. Let me say this one more time. Leave us alone. Drop it BaC you are way out of line.

Let me add the fact that Obama invited Boehner to fly down to Tuscon on Air Force One so they could show a united front. Boehner declined, choosing to attend a political event:

Of course, some folks have decided that Obama can do no right, so if he hadn't gone he would have been a weak leader. If he goes, he's crassly taking advantage of the situation for political gain.

There is so much wrong with this story I just heard.

Prior to the shooting, Loughner dropped a roll of film to be developed at Walgreens. There were pictures of him wearing a red g-string posing with his gun.

Well, I guess now we know he was a republican.

*crickets*

Are you for cereal or is this a joke!?

Or was it a very clever attempt at establishing evidence to support an insanity plea for a carefully pre-meditated crime?

No. . the guy is seriously disturbed, no matter how you look at it.

When do you expect we'll see apologies from people who blamed the right for this attack?

I would assume you'll see apologies from people who tried to paint him as a right-winger about the same time you'll see apologies from the people who started trying to paint him as a left-winger. It really makes me sad that every time there's an incident like this, there's a mad dash to get the perpetrator assigned to the Bad Guys' camp. Yes, understanding motive is important, and if it was political, then by all means, do so. But at the same time, it was deeply, deeply embarrassing to me to see the past week of "HE SAID HE LOVED THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO!" and "HE SAID HE WANTED GOLD AS A CURRENCY!" Unless the guy comes right out and says "I hate liberals and I wanted to kill liberals," there's no call for that sort of stuff.

Indeed. I'm something of an optimist though. I'd like to see a FEW people apologize for trying to pigeon-hole this nutcase. It would be refreshingly honest.

I doubt the two have ever meet but her recent re-election to congress was a bitter fight against a tea party backed candidate. She was accused of all kinds of things and a great deal of money was poured into her opponents campaign in a smear campaign. Some of the ads were rated as the worst of the worst with regards to truth and accuracy by independent organizations. Palin backed her opponent in the race and attacked Giffords for voting for health care reform and being weak on immigration and not loving america and the like.

you as a truly horrible person.

Your skepticism of the white houses lack of involvement in the planning of "Together we Thrive" is based only on your blind hatred of him. … snip … In this case Together We Thrive was the name for a city wide memorial to honor 6 dead friends (one a 9 year old girl) be thankful for those who survived and Applaud our heros. No, my skepticism is based on the way the Obama Whitehouse has used other *events* and all the cute slogans/logos they came up with to do it.

In fact, "Together We Thrive" is not something thought up by the University of Arizona at all … but something that clearly came from the Obama camp (Organizing For America). And here is the proof:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2656595/posts

"Together We Thrive" slogan used by OFA in 2008...

The creator of the slogan, a guy name John Berry, introduced the slogan this way:

For too long Americans have been set one against the other. It is a side effect of a free-market society. How can profits be maximized, how can I get the work done for the lowest possible costs. This continually sets one group against the other, especially in the blue collar sectors of America. It has become a part of the American business model, whether it was indentured servants, slaves picking cotton, sharecroppers, the industrious people that built the railroads or today's migrant workers. As long as we remain divided, fighting for the scraps that America has to offer it will be one group against the other.

In other words, the slogan was introduced to push socialism, Biscuit.

Not real togetherness. Or thriving (i.e., prosperity) ... since socialism and prosperity do not go hand in hand.

Let me add the fact that Obama invited Boehner to fly down to Tuscon on Air Force One so they could show a united front. Boehner declined, choosing to attend a political event:

From your own source:

Boehner had opened an hours-long tribute on the House floor Wednesday to Giffords and the other shooting victims and attended a bipartisan prayer service afterward. Because Air Force One left at 1 p.m., Boehner couldn’t have flown to Arizona and also attended the Capitol prayer service.

Michael Steel, a Boehner spokesman, said: “Today, Rep. Giffords’ colleagues on both sides of the aisle honored her and mourned those who were lost. The speaker felt his place was here in the House, with them.”

You tried to make it sound like he skipped the funeral for a partisan political event which this was not. When are you folks going to stop being dishonest? This dishonesty is what invites criticism of the left.
