Merged Rep. Giffords Shot In Tucson

You're all probably just joking about the rehab, right?

It has nothing to do with treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. In Giffords' case "rehab" refers to physical and emotional therapy to restore pre-injury functional abilities like breathing, walking, eating, speech, etc. If you have ever had major surgery, especially brain surgery, you know what this is about.

Oh. I guess I should have read the article. :)

No, no!! Clearly she developed a furtive and unbreakable drug habit in the past week where her opening her eyes was a triumphant achievement. She definitely had the physical and mental capacity in the past week to not only develop an addiction, but develop it to the point where rehab was necessary. Don't you THINK about these things???

I have a hard time seeing the utility of those 33 round clips as well.

IIRC, they were originally intended for use in the Glock Model 18. A fully automatic (ie machine pistol) variant of the Glock 17. I didn't think the magazines were interchangeable between the Glock 17/18 and the Glock 19. I had been wondering if this is why he was fumbling around trying to reload.

The Glock 18 of course was only intended for law enforcement but like most true machine pistols was impractically difficult to control.

Awkward silence?

This typical post tactic, claiming a person didn't answer, is just a form of an ad hom when debate points are lacking.

Please point to the post where you say you answered. Thanks.

No, it wasn't an ad hominem attack, unless you consider someone repeatedly asking for needed concrete evidence to back a sweeping claim some kind of personal attack. This is a skeptics forum and what I am doing is attacking a paucity of objective evidence in a person's argument (yours).

Too soon, man.

I thought that was pretty tame actually, and I meant it too. In the figurative sense that is. She must be pretty, wow it's hard to say this without a 'skull' reference, determined? Strong willed? Strong willed. She must be pretty strong willed to want to leave the hospital proper so soon.

Maybe that's all her insurance would cover.

Try coming back from Amsterdam through customs with a gun with an extended clip stuck up your arse. I have a longer answer, but I think that makes the point. I realize the US is in a somewhat different position, but I think the point stands.

No really the point is ridiculous. 90% of drugs are not smuggled in someones ass and neither is any other contraband. Its that people are soo poor and desperate to make even what we would call a small amount of cash that ass smuggling is a niche market for the poor, only reason it even exists.

The basic fact of the matter is that a free society cannot regulate these kinds of things in the ways that many posters in this thread want. Unrealistic expectations lead to a loss of liberty. Lets not be so short sighted and uncritical that we accept loosing our freedoms becuase nut bags do unpredictable things.

I wonder if the Glock is subject to the same possibility to go full-auto as the standard Colt gummint model is, when the sear is worked on a bit?
Zipping through those 33 rounds in a couple seconds would be a (noisy) rush! :)

It would also be a innaccurate rush unless a shoulder stock or some other means of reducing muzzle flip was used.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp3RXUFSBkQ In this video the glock pistol has been converted to a short barreled rifle with the addition of a stock. A Beta mag is also used.

I have had a pistol do a partial mag dump with one pull of the trigger. The first round hit the target, the third hit the weather protection above me. It was not a rush.
