Merged Rep. Giffords Shot In Tucson

No they do not. His theories are rambling, for sure, but they are not about random things. He is discussing things that are heavily bandied about on Glenn Beck et al. Specifically, I'm talking about these ideas:
- the current government is unconstitutional
- we (he) should not be bound by debt caused by the government
- currency should be based on gold and silver
- the government is brainwashing us
- the government is taking away our freedom of speech

what about the dates and grammar stuff?

And the stuff he is saying, although it may be the same topics, it certainly does not follow the same lines of reasoning.

It might be Beck or some conspiracy forum on the internet, but they did not just pop into his head from nowhere.

Even the CTers at ATS could not follow his logic, or where he was coming from. His Mars probe was a hoax CT seemed to be pretty much made up by himself. I think the guy was full of original ideas. Completely wacky and illogical, but original.

I know another like him from a music message board. The guy says the craziest, illogical ramblings sometimes, and then gets upset we dont understand his genius.

I think the shooter had the same sentiments. His ideas were original, just not well thought out. For example, nobody in the currency debate has ever suggests continuously making a new currency, nor have they said, "imagine, a coin with your picture on it" like this guy has.

UW Dude are you going to at least acknowledge that you misconstrued what I posted? An apology would be nice.

Also I agree that if the guy is schizophrenic then his ramblings might have some things he heard on the news, but that doesn't have anything to do with why he attacked these people. I think he met the Congresswoman years ago and she became a sort of figure of fixation for him. He's crazy. That's it. There's no Conspiracy here.

As I said the knee jerk reaction to the reason why this happened is more of a testament to the reality of this country. Although I do think Palin needs to be arrested for the gun sites on the map.

Jared Lee Loughner reportedly met with Congresswoman Giffords before tragic shooting

(WIREUPDATE) — A person who knew gunman Jared Lee Loughner said that he met with Congresswoman Giffords at least once in the past. Caitie Parker, a high school friend of the shooter, said Loughner told her about meeting the Congresswomen once in 2007.

“He was a political radical. He met Giffords once before in 2007. He asked her a question and he told me she was ‘stupid and unintelligent.’ Parker wrote on her Twitter account.

He was a pot head and into rock, like Hendrix, The Doors, Anti-Flag. I haven’t seen him in person since 2007 in a sign language class. As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy. He had a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in 2006 and dropped out of school. Mainly a loner, very philosophical,” she wrote.

According to BNO News, Loughner was placed into custody after shooting at least 18 people, six of whom have died.

A leftie pothead radical atheist?

I wonder if he ever posted here?

fair enough. My apologies. Sorry you had to ask, as I was considering it.

Thanks

:)

I associate the date with the '2012 mayan calendar scare' but it's just a hunch. As for the grammar, I've seen similar paranoia before but I don't know where it might come from.

And the stuff he is saying, although it may be the same topics, it certainly does not follow the same lines of reasoning.
I agree, actually it does not follow any logically coherent reasoning at all.

Again, my point is NOT that he faithfully carried out Glenn Beck's agenda. My point is that he seems to have gotten a lot of his twisted ideas from a source like Beck. It is therefore rather disingenuous to dismiss the possibility that, yes, this guy may actually also have been influenced by rhetoric hinting at violence against government representatives.

Feed a lunatic ideas about currency reform and what you get is some utterly incoherent theory about money. Tragic, but harmless. Feed a lunatic ideas about an oppressive unconstitutional government whose representatives should be targeted and that we may use 'second amendment' methods to 'take back the country' and you get something a lot less harmless.

This quote stood out to me when I first read it, because it reminds me of the dude I mentioned earlier on the music message board. His ideas are more new age, cosmic universe make up kind of stuff. It is completely incoherent and illogical, and takes wild leaps of imagination and thought. Things like "I haev proven that galaxies were born of a giant insect" when people say "you came nowhere near to proving that" he gets really upset, and then goes on a diatribe about the CIA and mind control and oversexed americans and a bunch of other wierd stuff.

The shooter seems to have the same mental profile. More than likely, he asked Giffords a completely nonsensical question, perhaps about creating a new currency every moment, or whether the date is really 19162387216328764827 B.C. She probably gave a political response with a smile, which he of course saw through as simply a non-answer, and then thought she was stupid for not being able to understand him.

After going through this thread and reading all the speculation on the possible motives of the shooter, I find this revelation hilarious. I guess JREF is now the “go to” forum on this incident.
We aim to please? ;)

Maybe that quote about the tree of liberty and blood of patriots has worse implications than we dare to think...

That's what stood out to me as well. And I totally agree with what you are saying in the other parts.

I note in the latest CNN update that two people tackled the gunman, who had ammunition left in a 30 round magazine.

The two are not named, but will, I hope, receive appropriate recognition in future.

I was off for a "prologanted" saturday out with my GF, come back and read he whole thread.

Edifying. frightening. Surprising. Baffling.

Not only the event itself, or reading everything what has leaked as info bit by bit, but also how the reaction of some to the event ...

Interresting time.

I saw an interview with one of the men. He had his own gun, but didn't want to use it, and just tackled the guy instead. He didn't know that Loughner had a knife as well, and said Loughner was whining that he was hurting him. Somehow the guy didn't care.

do these targets have any names of politicians attached to them?

no. no they do not.

Did Palin's call the other party "Enemy Lines"? Not being rhetorical, I'm seriously asking.

The distinction you are trying to make, and really not worth your effort.

well, I will say this. if it does turn out that the shooter indeed used Palin's website to choose a target, she has a problem.

if he didn't, then she has less of a problem.

When Representative Giffords recovers, and is asked about the map, her reply will also weigh quite a bit on this discussion and outcome for Palin.

Looks to me like the guy was just looking for a public target.
It could have just as easily been McCain or any other politician that was accesible.

History repeating itself to a degree. Oswald simply had the desire and the means to kill someone, hopefully political in his mind. It just happened to be JFK.

This just happened to be Rep. Giffords.
