Look, I have no idea what this guy's motivation was. If that YouTube is his, then politics was the least of it.

Even if, however, this guy turned out to be an illegal immigrant that lied about his identity to vote for Obama twice, assassinations should make everyone realize that all talk of violence is inappropriate, bar none.

We have crosshairs over her district, we have her opponent raising funds by having people shoot M-16's at her photo, we have sharron Angle and her "Second amendment remedies," we have Dr. Tiller's murder, this shooting did not occur in a vaccuum. This is an appropriate time to discuss the wrongness of politicians who glibly mention violence, regardless of why this assassination attempt occurred.

Nah, because if everyone had a gun there, the guy would've been shot before getting one off. You know, because guns make people see the future.

If the shooter is the owner of the linked YouTube profile, then he's simply a mentally disturbed individual.
 
The youtube page also has a very... odd video disturbing in its simplicity in which he plays "Bodies" by Drowning Pool while filming an American Flag. Someone in a hoody walks slowly up to it and sets fire to it as the song ends. The person walks away and the flag burns. The description for the video talks about there being no flag in the constitution so the flag is unknown.

On a side note, the song "Bodies" is about mosh pits but the band held an equal length time of silence at their concert the weekend following 9-11 out of respect for how the song is often mistaken to mean.

And let's not forget it is the nutjobs being influenced by the rhetoric that is the problem. The problem is not the mainstream right wing voters taking the rhetoric literally.
 
Arizona congresswoman among 18 shot at Tucson grocery

(CNN) -- Six people were killed and 12 others wounded -- including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords -- in a shooting outside a Tucson, Arizona, grocery store where the congresswoman was holding a constituent meeting, police said.

The suspect in the shooting was in custody, according to U.S. Capitol Police, who did not identify the alleged gunman.

Darci Slaten, a spokeswoman for University Medical Center in Tucson, said Giffords, 40, was undergoing surgery Saturday afternoon for a gunshot wound to the head.

and yes, the problem is not sane people, who know right from wrong, and know political violence has no place in our society.

the problem is mentally ill folks and extremists, who take the same rhetoric, and act upon it.

when people like Sarah Palin post maps of the USA, with sniper-scopes targeting politicians she does not agree with, she has to ask herself "how will an insane or extremist interpret this map? is it going too far?"

My very good friend is well connected with the local law enforcement. He began texting me updates that he is getting from police command via a "source" I don't wish to press him for further details as he is trusted and just relaying information. He has already been wrong on one or two points but he is just being feed info none of it is vetted.

That said he was right about the judge, the child, the identity of the shooter, nature of the wounds and a few other things. He even sent me the judges name but I did not post it because I was not sure if it was public info yet.

Yes, I'm sure this will engender just such a discussion at the level of the political class. When one of their own gets gunned down, it will probably make them be a little more serious about how they paint their political opponents in rhetorical terms. That is one positive thing I see coming out of this horrible situation, regardless of whether or not the actual shooting had to do with left-right politics.
