Chaos Magic

Another quick example.

Want to stop eating MacDonald's? Use their own powerful sigil against them!

Cut the golden arches from a large fries container. Cut it into pieces and rearrange them into your own "power over MacDonald's sigil".

Go upset a bull moose.
When you are ******** yourself as it charges, look at the sigil to charge it.

My illithid based powers work in a similar manner.

1. Think really hard of an action you want to accomplish.

2. Take a revolver and place one round in the chamber.

3. Spin the cylinder, place the gun to your temple and pull the trigger.

4. If your action has not been accomplished, this means you wern't scared enough. Repeat steps 2-3 until action has been accomplished.

It always works for me, if it doesn't work for you, your just not connected enough into the hive mind.

( see how easy this **** is to make up on the spot? )

So pretty much if you wanted to use chaos magic to say, keep me from posting here tomorrow you could do that? Could you use it to say keep the New York Times or Wall Street Journal from publishing?

Yeah it is really getting to put up or shut up time. We have 9 pages of rambling, not a single attempt to prove anything.

If you can do something, do it, otherwise your simply telling a poorly written story at best, obviously trollin' at worst.

Okay so could you use your chaos magic to keep me from posting here on Wednesday 5 January all day in the Central European Time Zone? I have plans for Tuesday so I probably won't be posting here at all tomorrow (what I have a life?).

I'll give you an option. Can you keep the New York Times from publishing an Opinion Section in the online edition on the same day?

So either you keep me from posting here on the Wednesday my local time of this week or you keep the New York Times from posting an opinion section.

I will save you the trouble of waiting for them to post.

" I don't have to dance for you like a monkey. These powers are a gift, not something i am going to parade around for you. "

Even though a thread was started in order to show that this was effective.

We keep running in the same circles. Always adding proof that every person who claims a super power is full of crap or insane. Possibly both in some cases.

I would like somebody to use chaos magic, or any other magic to predict a post that will be made on this forum at a future time. That shouldn't be so hard to do.

I was just providing info on a subject I am familiar with from my youth.
I am no longer a practicing "Chaos Magician".

The moose thing was too subtle huh?

Man, we have someone claiming Magic Voice From MST3K talked to them in their head but told them not to tell, one one side. Tango doing his best to avoid saying anything that would resemble a clear statement on the other, and you think your post is abnormal?

If it was me, yeah people would probably catch on pretty quick. But when you post about 30 times a year, you might want to avoid the thickly layered sarcasm. I mean , seriously i would say your joke was a more direct, clear, testable claim than either of their two " serious" attempts at trying to convince us.

The info I provided about sigils and charging is indeed an actual description of the practice.

"Thickly layered sarcasm"= go upset a bull moose?

I see what you are saying about my post count. If I attempt to employ humor people may not be able to quickly discern where I stand on a subject, or whether it is of value to read.
Maybe I should just go back to mainly reading and listening for a few more years. But then how will I improve my JREf cred?

Thickly layered sarcasm..hmmm.. I will definitely think on that.

I had the same issue, it is not some huge mental flaw or anything. I was just used to posting in less.... serious forums, so i came across wackier than i intended.

Start a few serious threads , do some , for lack of a better term, "small talk" until people get a good handle on what you do. Because in all seriousness, " Get a bull moose to charge" and " Magic Voice told me something i can't tell you." are both in the same ballpark.

Which is in no way a dig at you, but at the fact that what you think i should know is obvious sarcasm ( and if it was anywhere but here i would agree with you it should have been obvious. ) is the same type of thing someone is expecting me to take at face value.

Like I said, you already know what I experienced better than I do -- and you didn't even have to test a hypothesis or run any experiments!

Thing is, Aku, that you can filter initial reports and anecdotes against the database of current knowledge to check for plausible hypotheses for the likely cause. The simplest, most plausible hypothesis is generally taken to be the most likely cause. Examining your report, there are well-known precedents for every part of it - we know hearing voices is not unusual in the kind of circumstances you describe, and we know that the initial memory laid down is likely to be unreliable, given the situation, and that memories of experiental 'stories' are generally refined and exaggerated over time such that they diverge from the original experience. This kind of distortion happens to all of us, whether we realise it or not. See How Much Of Your Memory Is True.

The plausibility of this hypothesis - that your report is fully consistent with well evidenced unreliability of brain function, astronomically outweighs the plausibility of the hypothesis that your report is of mysterious supranormal or paranormal forces or spirits for which there is no good evidence. You may not like it, and the mundane explanation isn't so romantic, but that's just the way goes. That's the problem with anecdotes, they are simply unreliable.

I have stories about events that I could have sworn were accurate, that a friend or colleague is equally sure happened quite differently - in a couple, the difference is about which of us was the protagonist... At least one of us has to be seriously wrong.

Our memories evolved with the rest of us - they are only as good as they need to be for individual and group success, and that turns out to be a lot flakier than we thought until recently.

So an intrepid skeptic who wants to test chaoes magic would start with a little reading about the principles of Chaos magic. Then, he or she selects a method of achieving gnosis. Gnosis is the Chaos magic term for altered state of consciousness. There are several methods to choose from, and its a very personal choice. Self-hypnosis, sexual orgasm, frenzied dancing, entheogens, ect.

I doubt that even the most slow-witted of skeptics would dedicate a significant amount of time to becoming something that, according to the evidence, does not exist.

I expect he would realize that once he spent that time and found that he could not become a mystical-mumbojumblist with super-powers, his experience would still prove nothing as to the overall question of whether those who claim they CAN do it can. That's why the only way to evaluate the claim is by having those who claim it is ture show evidence to support it.

... I've just had a lot of really bizarre things happen to me in my life [more than can be told in a single sitting]. It seems I'm just a weirdness magnet -- iono what to tell ya *_*
Zanders thought he was experiencing more than his fair share of weirdness too, it's a common feeling. He can probably explain to you how it works. If you think about it rationally, it doesn't make sense that you should be a weirdness magnet any more than anyone else - it's an egocentric view, similar to that which led to thinking the Earth was the centre of the universe. We're predisposed to these forms of thinking. Doesn't mean it's true.

Sounds like a crude attempt at negative reinforcement...

Oh no, I got the sarcasm. However these people really think this stuff works. If they're right this should be easy for them to pull off.

Well, I'm sure Limbo can tell me what I got wrong.

Humor aside, I was trying to answer your question about the system of magic the OP is talking about.
Even the MacDonalds/moose example is true to the "theory" of Chaos magic.

First of all, how would trusting one's own experience in anyway suggest that they would not seek help for vomiting blood? A person goes to seek medical attention for painful bloody vomiting precisely because they trust their senses.

Second of all, you know good'n well that the account I gave isn't being denied or downplayed merely because its suggestive of an auditory hallucination. Its being challenged specifically because it suggests the occurrence of something in contraction with what many consider to be possible. A person giving an account of stomach ulcers doesn't garner accusations of trying to "overturn the entirety of scientific knowledge".

Okay then, I'll play along. Lets assume that it was "just" an auditory hallucination. How does that in anyway explain or account for all of what occurred? Detail it to me step-by-step because, apparently, you and some others here seem to think they know what I've experienced better than I do :p

See you miss the point of my post entirely.

Oh, I got the point of your post quite clearly. Your powers of 'critical thinking' have expanded to the point where you have godlike omniscience that allows you to know what an individual from across the internet has experienced better than they do. Can you tell me what I ate for breakfast today, too?
