You can of course transfer the title to someone else. Sign the bottom of the V5 document and send it into the DVLA, but title has to transfer to another party - or the car has to be scrapped.
In Victoria, Australia, I can de-register a car simply by handing in the plates, and getting a partial refund on the Registration/ Third Party Insurance and leave it sitting in my paddock, or even driving it around on my personal property. (As it happens I don't own a paddock or a farm, but you get the drift)
But driving it anywhere outside my own property would then become a pretty big no-no.
