I think there is a generational language gap that is causing much of the uproar here. The slang usage of the word 'faggot' has evolved from a homophobic slur to be much more generic. Teens today often use it interchangeably with 'loser' or 'idiot'. I see no evidence in the context that it was intended to be reference to sexual orientation.

I don't really disagree with that. I strongly doubt that young Willow meant the word in the same way the people who killed Matthew Shepherd meant it.

What's interesting, however, is that could anyone imagine Obama's daughters doing something like this? Or Chelsea Clinton? Was there ever a remote chance that the Clinton and Obama girls would be single teen mothers?

Again, it's the sanctimonious claim that family values are the exclusive territory of right wing "real" Americans that makes this dumb Facebook thing of any interest at all.

You can never tell. Many people don't care for abortion, but believe it is better to leave the choice up to the individuals. You could easily support abortion politically but never consider it for yourself. And vice versa--I know people who are pro-life, but would indeed consider abortion if they found themselves or their daughters pregnant.

Yes, that's true. I know that a lot of abortion supporters really are just supportive of the right to choose it while generally seeing it as the wrong choice (just as I support legalizing drugs even though I would never use them myself).

Yeah, but hypocrisy is completely human when disaster strikes too close. My mother railed for years about Clinton's draft-dodging, but when she was led by paranoia (and talk radio) into believing that a draft was imminent for the 2003 Iraq thing, she tried to persuade me to be ready to flee to Canada at a moment's notice.
