2010 Election Results

The ballot initiatives:
CO about defining a person from the beginning of biological development is losing big.

OK now requires official state actions to be in the English language. This was a big fail for the Esperanto lobby.

IL allows election to recall governor. I thought jail sentences were working pretty well.

TN, AR, KS and SC now have state constitutional rights to hunt and fish. All residents will now be required to kill at least one animal and/or fish a month. A similar effort in AZ is failing at the moment.

OK now forbids state courts from relying on Sharia or Muslim law when making rulings. Didn't know that was a big problem. No word on the effort to ban the Code of Hammurabi.

OK yet again, has voted to require government issued photo ID to vote. The countdown to the ACLU lawsuit has already started.

Nothing yet on California's pot proposition.

Well, I'm fresh from volunteering for the Patty Murray campaign and I can report WA state is going to be racked with scandal and contested vote counts for months.

The state went to all absentee balloting (aka all mail in ballots) after the 2008 election. So this is the first election since that change with a large voter turnout. Low and behold the bugs have not been worked out. Hundreds of people showed up to vote in the very few places one could vote if you lost your ballot or did not receive one in the mail. People were waiting 3 or more hours in line to vote at Bellevue City Hall this evening to see 3 people who could look up their voter registration.

Six of us went to the polling place to hand out food and water to people waiting in line so they wouldn't leave before voting. When I left an hour before the polls closed, there were >200 people in line waiting to vote. There were dozens circling the parking lot waiting for a spot to open so they could park and come get in line but there were way more people coming to the lot than were finishing voting and vacating a parking spot.

Wow, what an absolute incompetent election board mess.

This is a heavily Democratic Party county. The same scenario was playing out in the only 3 locations people without mail in ballots could vote. I have no knowledge yet if the same was true in Spokane, which is in a heavily Republic Party county. But if all those folks could easily vote and Democrats could not, and we have a close race for Senator (Murray vs Rossi), then what a messy election this is going to turn out to be.

The GOP just took the U.S. House.

Congratulations, my Republican friends. Now it's your turn to lead and come up with ideas for moving the country forward.

One thing's for sure, this isn't going to be boring :)

Holy ****** Reid's up significantly with 51% reported. This is great news!!! :yahoo

edit - Titus and Heck are at a virtual deadlock with 80,000 votes each.

Well, it isn't over yet. There were people whooping it up earlier tonight when it looked like Giannoulias was going to beat Kirk in IL, and now Kirk's ahead by 2% with 92% of precincts reported.

As a wise man once said: "It ain't over 'til it's over."

Wow, that sounds like a real mess in the making. I don't envy any of you folks in WA :boggled:

Looks like Murray is already well behind.
