Ann says Obama is an atheist not a Muslim

What do I care what Ann Coulter says?! She knows James Feces about most stuff to start with. So why do we even give her the time of day with a response?

I've always thought Obama was a religious dilettante. He seemed completely blindsided by the opinions of Reverend Wright, whose church he had ostensibly attended for years. His balance in addressing people of different religions seems to indicate that he has a sort of "whatever you believe, it's cool" sort of attitude. Compare and contrast this to the previous president who wore his religion on his sleeve.

I really respect Obama for not letting religion define him, but I know he is a politician, and he must at least appear to be religious. Christian, specifically. So he might actually be an atheist. But if that blind hog Ann Coulter found this acorn, she is almost certain to mis-identify it as a chesnut.

Is it necessary to make a story everytime this idiot says something?

Let's just assume anything Coulter, Beck, Robertson, or Moore or Penn says is going to be stupid.
Why does anyone give a DAMN what that crazy lunatic says? She is out of her mind and deserves no attention, even on an internet forum.

Good point. Every time we even acknowledge her deliberately controversial outbursts, she wins. On an internet forum we would call her a troll. Everything she says is calculated to push our buttons and make us want to rebut her as an almost knee-jerk reaction.

In general, he doesn't seem very interested in religion. But I doubt he's an atheist.

Most politics will lie a way or another.
We only know that because lies tend to show themselves to be lies sooner or later.

Therefore a small lie pretending to be a christian convert to pander to that type of population , is *expected*.
In Obama's case it is not a small lie. It is a role he has to actively live 24/7, which would be a lot easier to do if he actually believed in what he says he believes in.

So yeah. I can certainly imagine he is an atheist, as many in the congress are, and simply lie rather than come out of the closet and lose a huge part of their electorat.
Is there any evidence that "many in congress are" atheists? Or don't we care about evidence any more? Are atheists really that desperate for someone in a position of authority who shares their non-belief that they prefer to imagine many atheists are liars rather than admit there are theists with whom they agree on a lot of issues?

She can be happy Witches don't get burned anymore. she would give a nice fire.

Not all lies. Only the falsifiable kind.

Seems like a reasonable assumption. Not because I want to believe it, just because of statistics. They would be closeted, just as many gays were/are closeted, for political reasons.

If they are unfalsifiable there is no distinction between "lies" and "truths".

Not because I want to believe it, just because of statistics.
Which statistics? And don't tell me "x% of the population is atheist, therefore likely x% of congress is atheist" because that doesn't follow. Congress is not a representative sample of the population; people who most effectively can convince their constituents they are Christian are more likely to get into Congress. The people who are most effective at convincing others they're Christian, are Christians.

They would be closeted, just as many gays were/are closeted, for political reasons.
And yet, many homosexual politicians have come out of the closet, even if it did mean the end of their political career. AFAIK no atheist has.

And who knows, it could be true. It certainly strains credulity that only 1 of the 535 members of Congress is a nonbeliever, given that atheists are a higher proportion of the general population and an even higher proportion of the subset that has the educational background from which Congress is typically drawn.

Presumably the one that Dunstan cites is Pete Stark. But his announcement was the end result of a concerted effort by the Secular Coalition for America to have a congresscritter come out as an atheist. IIRC, SCA said they had around 20 state such a view but were not willing to go public with such a bold statement. I don't have a link but will try to find one if necessary, Earthborn.

Wait, what?

I'm really fascinated by this type of opinion-- some variant being pretty prevalent in the US-- considering just how much the dude seems to talk about faith, his faith in particular, and what it means to him. Obama has given more speeches referencing or directly talking about his faith in just two years than George W Bush gave in his whole first term.

24/7 ? Please , he is a christian even in his sleep ? Huuu... You might want to rephrase that. I have seen nothing from his interview or article on him which shows him as the devotional deep christian you seem to say he is. More like a hand off christian, which is one little step away (one small lie) from being an atheist.

No evidence (nobody can read mind) that there are atheist in congress, but statistically it would be quite surprising that there are none, as congress people come from the economical social level where there is the most atheist, and from the various political level. It would mean somehow that politics are predominately theist for some reason. Could be a selection bias (atheist get selected and thrown at a lower level) or it could be simply they lie because it is easier to get elected. IMHO it is more probable it is a question of lying.

Could be selection bias in the article I read, but it does not come off that way...

Politicians are not religious.

The god of every politician is himself as a public image.

They worship they own voice and this give meaning to them.
